Yee Haw, Legacy shift kit on ebay

What do you want to be its a switch that disconnects the dropping resistor!? edit: Hmm, they state that it has two connections into your wire harness and a switch. I wonder if it adds a second resistor to increase the resistance? The seller has confirmed that it modifies the dropping circuit.

So who is going to be the guinea pig? I would jump on this but I can't install it for a year. But, if reviews are good, I'll throw money at it.

Actually I was posting it as a warning. Most likely it is either:
Documented on the I-club (no need to purchase) And-Incorrect implementation of this idea Or-Damaging to the transmission. Just take the MOD I outlined a while back. Use a 17ohm 25 watt (50 if possible) resistor in the old units place. |

Oh ok, yeah a friend of mine thought it sounded shady. Thanks for the warning. So what does your DIY mod do? More solid shift?

Well,,,,
The transmission has a bypass valve that releives pressure. When at low throttle the voltage is high and passes through a 10 ohm resistor, so the valve is open at say 10%. As the throttle raises the voltage drops, so the bypass is shut off. Thats why the transmission shifts harder at high throttle. Some found that disconnecting the resistor all together gives firm shifts. I beleive this is a bad way to do it. The first thing is that you get a "Check Transmission Light." The second has to do with timing of the 2nd to third shift. I wont go into detail on this post. Adding a larger resistor still allows the bypass valve to function, just at a firmer setting. I would stay at or below 20 ohm. Personally Im still deciding between 15 and 17 ohm. MAKE SURE YOU GET AT LEAST TWENTY FIVE WATT, 50 being a better size. The best part about the mod I explain is that you dont need to cut ANY of the factory wiring harness! At worst you just cut the lines to the resistor (on the other side of the plug, not the car side). Personally I temporarily installed the mod by sticking the bare wires into the socket and wrapping it with electrical tape. I have since found another dropping resistor and cut the connector off to use for my mod. The feeling is great. The only mod I have found better than this was to replace my 140k mile 1990 legacy transmission with a 32k mile 1995 impreza transmission |

Well thanks for the info. I'll probably hook this up when I get a chance. Are the gears different between a Legacy and Impreza transmission? I know that's a whole new topic, but I'm just curious.
