Since this is an EV platform, without the need for a boxer engine/symmetrical layout, what exactly is better about SGP vs. TNGA chassis?

I feel like this is primarily developed by Toyota since e-TNGA is currently only going to be one Subaru, one Suzuki and many Toyotas.

Yes. Jointly developed like the BRZ/86, but this time Toyota did the engineering.

Toyota has yet to show me a safer structure than Subaru's. I've seen first hand, many-a-time, Subarus and Toyotas in car accidents(along with many more) in my career. You'd be HARD pressed to convince me of something better than Subaru.

There is nothing yet saying how much engineering was done by either. From the things we've heard up till now, I feel Subaru had more input into this than Toyota had in the twins; but, do feel it's more Toyota. And another ding for buying it is it's surely going to be built in a Toyota factory. Nah. This is definitely where the fanboi in me kicks in. I buy Subaru. Not just something with a Subaru badge on it. When I saw the Traviq in Japan, I was initially excited, then it faded quick.....

I'd LOVE to hear the back story to this like they did with the twins though.

You do know he has a job that sometimes requires him to show up at the aftermath of crashes, right? I've known EMTs, firefighters, paramedics, etc. who've had strong recommendations on which cars NOT to buy just based on the carnage they've seen. Seems like solid recommendations to me, at least as good as any magazine racers that frequently post here.

And I don't see what's bad about rooting for Subaru when their greatest strength is safety. It's pretty much the one thing anyone on here can agree on. It's weird how this site likes to "call out" people who favor Subaru. This section in particular hasn't been inviting for a while, which is why we don't get many newcomers.

I'm been sent personal messages over the years asking what's up with certain members and their attitudes, or even if I could ask a certain question because people are scared of getting chewed up on here.

We just need more chill. Let people on a SUBARU forum enjoy their... Subaru.

Also, Subaru stated that the Solterra is on their "new" platform, so I think we're all good. Toyota's input is electrification. I'd think that if they were focusing on the Solterra needing AWD then Subaru would be responsible for the platform, while Toyota would be responsible for making the EV aspect of it worthwhile. The SGP was created to include EV, I thought? So this "new" platform just seems like shared marketing speech.

My bad. I just get tired of the constant counters to anything positive about Subaru. Some counters are indeed legit (no wagon, no turbo, no manual, no coupe, oil consumption, poor factory tuning, etc. etc. etc.) while others are just ridiculous (Camry is faster, car can't get out of its own way, paint is the worst, rattles itself to death, new interior is already dated, can Subarus has crash, etc. etc. etc.).

Also Snow Drift already answered your question and shared a link. I missed it too. This new platform is from Toyota, being used by Subaru. So Subaru will now be selling their own SGP, Toyota's e-TNGA, and whatever the BRZ is (I honestly forget).

"e-SGP" is redundant, because back in 2016 when Subaru debuted their SGP it already included "e".

My guess is that instead of jumping headfirst into EV with their SGP, Subaru is choosing to utilize Toyota's e-TNGA. I don't see how Subaru would be incentivized to compete with Toyota by making their own EV. So it appears that Subaru has abandoned the SGP for EV use.

Or, if this joint EV venture works out very well, then Subaru is already prepared to utilize their platform to adopt EV to a model that doesn't really work with Toyota's line-up. But even that's kind of hard to imagine because Toyota just announced that they're working on like 10+ EV's, coming out of the door swinging. So I don't know what Subaru could offer that Toyota would pass on for themselves.

I'm far from convinced that the normality of EV's is quickly approaching us. EV offerings? Sure. Manufacturers can offer whatever they want. EV purchases? Even if Toyota and Subaru are offering $20k AWD performance EVs, it'll be slow-going for them to be quickly adopted en masse.

SGP is capable of BEV, ICE, Hybrid and a compromised PHEV.

However, new tech is expensive. So, since Subaru doesn't want to go it alone at this point (they are always last to new tech), they looked for a partner. Toyota has developed the e-TNGA platform which can flex to fit many different types of cars, and to offset the cost they brought on partners (Subaru, Suzuki, etc).

This does not mean a future Impreza EV or Outback EV will not be on SGP. It just means, that EV 1.0 will be on e-TNGA.

Me. Personally. Wouldn't be worried. I've had 2 STIs. A WRX. Turbo Baja. And all my other Subarus and not had issues. I'll also have warranties to cover whatever may happen.

Just something I realized looking at the Toyota BZ thing that this will be a clone of - this would appear to be the fruit of the Viziv Adrenaline concept. At least in part, based on the weird fenders.

I suppose they might use that fender look on other cars. But this could be then end if you were holding out hope for some sort of turbo Crosstrek thing to come out of that concept.
