In 2011 they did the club trial which they pretty much let anyone run.

With CMP running this event, since it not one of their own group's Turn 1 Motorsports events, things seem to be confusing for people that want to participate, to say the least. No proposed schedule, no helmet/safety requirements posted, no info on transponders, no way to really classify yourself based on the rules for each TT class... |

the event, though it may be called a time trial, will be run like a PDX. The reason for the simplified classes and lack of information on transponders is because it will not be a competition event in which lap times are recorder but rather run like a PDX in which you are just getting the track time. The simplified classes were chosen so that first timers could register without getting bogged down in NASA or SCCA classing (as anyone who regularly attends an autocross can vouch for as being extremely cumbersome to beginners). As for the helmets current regulations regarding helmet use are required through a roll bar and such are not. If you're helmet is OK to run in the SCCA SOLO, hillclimb, time trial, road race or NASA events, it is good to go here though SA 2010 is preferred (NO MOTORCYCLE OR DIRTBIKE HELMETS. PERIOD.) If you do not have an SA helmet they will have some for rent. I apologize for any resulting confusion, though the track is still trying to get it's bearings with running these events and wants to provide the community, particularly those of us with Subarus, with affordable track time that doesn't bury you with classing rules or put you in heated competition with people fighting over season points. If you have any more questions feel free to post up here (my apologies for the lack of correspondence, it will be much more maintained) or email me at [email protected], or contact Sylvia at [email protected].
Spark notes: 1. How much is transponder rental, and how/where should I mount it...? Transponders rent for $15/day with a requirement of a credit card number that can be run if the transponder is not returned. As to mounting, there should be a clear shot to the ground. It will be determined on site if we use them though it is my understanding that that is unlikely 2. What are the rules for modifications for each TT class? Does it loosely follow SCCA autocross classing? Yes 3. Since this is a Time Trial, previous track experience is a requirement...? I have a few friends that may come with me if they can get an instructor (no previous track experience). Yes, there will be a novice class with an additional $10 for the instructor 4. Will a Snell M-rated helmet be allowed, or must it be Snell SA-rated? If SA is a requirement, how much is helmet rental? 2005 MA helmets can be used. We have some for rent for $10/day with a $100 security fee (can be credit card number that it not run unless not returned on a good check for $100 that can be returned at the end of the day. Hope this has helped. Last edited by Donutz; 11-24-2012 at 11:01 PM. |

that being said Folger is working with the Make-A-Wish foundation from now until January to donate money to their cause.
Folgers says: 1. For every new Subaru vehicle that is sold at our Charlotte Subaru dealership now through Jan. 2, 2013, we will donate $100 to Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina! 2. Like us on Facebook! We will donate $1 to them for each new page like during this time period! 3. Donate toys as part of our "Pack the Outback" toy drive! Stop by our Subaru dealership showroom and place your toy donations in our specially designated drop-off area. 4. We are selling Make-A-Wish® Christmas tree ornaments! They are $10 each, and all proceeds will go to Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina. 5. We will also be collecting monetary donations and gift cards with all proceeds going to Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina. and they are hoping to use this event to generate awareness for their cause (much like the local SCCA region uses a December charity event for the toys for tots). so if you haven't go on and like their page! Finally, we will be having ridealongs at the event in an H6 swapped autocross car for anyone who would like to go out and see the track (competitor or spectator) so feel free to bring a bunch of people to spectate/tell whoever may be interested as they will not only have the opportunity to use the rental kart facility but can also see some autocross action in a pretty quick Subaru. The ridealongs will be run like they have in the past with the 2012 STis and the BRZ that was there at the summer event except that there will be no raffle for the ridealongs and they will be offered first come first serve (and of course will not be available to small children). To keep doing events like this we need to get registration numbers up so go ahead and get registered! (no need to prepay) Hope to see everyone out! |

For all those interested in the full track portion of the event. The decision has been made to run it in three groups: PDX, time trial and solo. Those who want to rent a transponder or have their own and have their times recorded may do so in the time trial portion, but for those who just want to spend some time blasting around the course you may do so without any additional equipment or recorded times in the pdx group. Registration has been updated. sorry for the constant changes, working out all the kinks.
Also Folger will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the Make-A-Wish foundation so get registered! (no prepay necessary) |

Is it full course now?
I'm only going out there for fun. I have some track experience, although never at cmp. Do I need an instructor? Last edited by intense98rt; 11-27-2012 at 07:51 PM. |

nah but it will be on the bigger half of the course. That can be determined day of, but if you have a lot of experience/a competition license you should be good. Worst case a ridealong to double check everything and then send you on your way

I read the updated info on MSR, glad to see they've simplified the info and are running it like a Turn 1 event. I noticed over this past weekend that I have a corded Star Spec , and since Tire Rack has a monopoly on Star Specs, wanting $800 for a set of 255/40/17, I ordered a set of R-S3s from Discount Tire, mounted and balanced for ~$100 less. I've registered for Solo, I'll probably stick with that group. I won't pay until next week when I'm 100% sure I'm attending. |

Great news about the road course/PDX format. I'm signed up for the Time Trial and will be instructing as well.

As I understand it, the Star Spec II is coming soon, so supplies are currently limited on the Star Specs as they've quit making/shipping them.

This is exactly why I don't run Advancs or 'Stones... Why pay $900-$1k for a set when I can pay $600-$700 for a set that's 95% as good? And considering my skill level, anyway. |

285/35/19 doesnt leave me with many options. The pos tires are $300 a piece.
I honestly cant really run crap tires anyway. The Pirelli P-zero's arent the best summer tire and they have issues with traction. How many miles would a set of RE-11 or Kumho XS get me? If i had to guess id get 15 to 20k miles out of the P-zeros with regular driving. |

While I'm not happy about the TR monopoly on Star Specs either, I was pleasantly surprised that the ZIIs are damn near the same price as the pre-closeout Z1s.

I'd expect in the 10k-20k range for miles on any sticky street tire on our car, RE-11, XS, etc. My current set of Star Specs has survived 15+ AX events, and 5 days at the track. Could've lasted another 1-2 track days easily if I'd bothered to flip them last month. Where'd you see pricing on the ZII...? I haven't seen it anywhere... |

Folger Subaru and Carolina Motorsports Park are going to raffling off a $600 voucher for tires day of! You'll have to go through Folgers to get the tires but the $600 is good on any tire of your choice! Let's get registration numbers up and have a great event, it's not everyday an event host is so willing to give away freebies on top of great track time.
Looks like the weather is going to be gorgeous too! |

Tradsies?
Whelp, I decided I'm going to go do the autox. I've been driving a 2.5RS for a while now, and I've driven WRX's on and off autox so now I would very kindly like to ask if I could drive someone's STI for a run or two? I would be more than glad to let you drive my gc8 2.5rs although its nothing special.
