High-beam flashers
Has anyone noticed a lot of people flashing their high-beams at you like you forgot to turn yours off? It never happened to me until tonight but suddenly half the people passing me are doing this. I got home and did a thorough inspection of the lights and alignment. I see nothing different from when I bought the thing! Our headlights produce some natural flares as you get to the side because of the mirrors in them but its not that bad. The foggers didnt make much of a difference either. WHY!?

I've gotten that once... I think they honestly think that we have our brights on. I run with my fogs on with my headlights all the time, too.

It is the sign that most motorists use to say "get the *&?@ out of the way" if they are passing you. When the other car is coming towards you, it says, turn on your brights..

Is it legal to run with your fog lights on all the time in the US, here in the UK you can only use fogs in very poor visibilty and you will certainly get flashed if you have them on in normal visibility

Paul : It all depends on the state/local you live in. Most places dont care as long as they are not some outlandish color or brightness. I run with my fogs on all the time also, and haven't gotten any grief from the local constabulary. I also have they set so I can run the fogs independent of the headlights. I usualy run just the fogs at dusk.

well, if it was the cars in the oncoming direction, they may have been signaling you that there was a radar trap ahead...

I always considered running with the fog lights on all the time silly. They are fog lights not driving lights. Having them on at dusk makes some sense, but then you actually just have on your low beams. If you change your fog lights to driving lights, then it would make sense to have them whenever you liked.
However, the stock fog lights - they are pretty much only useful in the fog, or other types of inclement weather. Now, what is really irritating is people driving around with only their parking lights at dusk. I mean, they are called parking lights for a reason... Regards, Tim |

I rarely use my fog lights. It does what it's intended to do - slightly illuminate the objects within 30 feet via reflection from the road it's pointed at(like ten feet).
It worked quite well when we had an actual thick fog here in Maryland(and that's quite rare where I live). The fog light's indirect light didn't cause the fog to blind me - but it illuminated the trees and the side of the road. Kinda neat. |

Snoopy,
Exactly! There's rarely a true need for fogs here in SoCal, and I live ON the coast. Nothing thick enough that fogs would help, for sure. I have Dutch555's covers over mine, and even pulled the fuse just in case I hit the switch by mistake (don't need a melt-down). They are called fog lights for a reason. And driving lights or fogs are rarely properly aimed. I always flash people who have fogs on that shine in my face instead of at the ground. Just as bad as high-beams. Especially when it is a clear night. Julian |

How good ARE the headlights in the RS? I never did look in to that one... which was strange, that's something I'm big on. My Integra's lights are some-ol' powerful!!!
Is there a switchoff for the fogs? -S2- |

The head lights are good up to 80mph. beyond that, you'd better high beam. And yes, there is a fog light switch.
BTW, some of those after market blue/white plasma thingamajig are worse than stock lights. They're not worth the money I hear. |

I used to run my fogs constantly.. I drive with all my lights on during the day as well.. I think the more visible you are to other motorists the better! Anyway, at night I would run the fogs because they give great cornering visibility over the low or high beams.. other than that they are there to look cool as hell!

If your fogs are providing illumination for a turn I hope you are going exceedingly slow, otherwise you are overdriving your lights and not looking far enough down the road. Remember to look as far ahead as feasible. Once you've initiated a turn you are pretty comitted to said turn. The only surpise you should encure would be something moving rapidly across your path.
Stay ahead of the car. Once you start reacting instead of anticipating things begin to go downhill rapidly. Schumacher's hellacious slide and catch in Sunday's Grand Prix was not merely a reaction. He anticipated the cars movement. Notice how beautifully he was lined up for the next corner? Oh, he probably could have used fog lights in that race... ah hell, just forget whatever I said. You're driving, you're there, not me. What do I know anyway? Not much - you? |

My $0.02,
Although it depends completely on how bright the oncoming lights are, I'll frequently leave high beams on for oncoming cars who choose to drive with their fogs lights on (or other "legal" non-headlights) when the conditions do not warrant their use. Bottomline? If it's nearly as bright as a highbeam, I return the "favor." FWIW, most fog light/ driving lights actually reduce your long range sight because of the glare it produces close to your car. imho- Scott |

I am still thinking of getting European style lights for my RS cause they sure are good for night-driving in those tegs. Its like daytime again in my brothers Acura when he puts those highbeams on. I would feel bad though because the RSs stock lights look sooo good at night. If I get out to look at them its hard to get back in the car. Ok, so I am a little obsessive.
