Default Can you hear your stock STi BOV?

I remember reading somewhere that people claim you can't hear your stock BOV on the STi. Well I just bought one from an older man who barely drove it ('04 with 3100 miles) and did not mod it, and I can definitly hear the BOV when I shift.

Like I said, the car is completely stock... is this the case for anyone else?

I've recently put the intake elbow in my 05 STi. Just now I can BEARLY hear any BOV. But just bearly and you have to listen for it... Was hoping for a little more noise when I put the elbow on...

It's not BOV. It's called ByPass Valve

You can hear the pfft but kinda muted.

Wait till you remove the intake resonator or when you upgrade to a K&N Typhoon or some other short ram. You'll hear the whoosh noises even better

are you serious? I thought that swoosh was a BOV... sounds identical.

Can you please explain the purpose of the bypass valve? I know in my honda I removed it (and I never heard a peep out of it).

Thanks guys!

ok... so there is no BOV, just a Bypass valve. They serve similar purposes?

The BPV recirculates the air back into the turbo inlet instead of venting it to the atmosphere like a regular BOV does. For that reason it doesn't sound as loud as a BOV.

Old man? The subie dealer in Englewood NJ tried to sell me an '04 STi WRB with about 3k miles who claimed it belonged to an old man. Is this the same one we're talking about?

Yeah, the by pass valve is definitely audible especially if your in 5th or 6th gear. Give it a little gas and then let go. It was fun for a few miles when I first got the car.
