Does anyone know a part number, i know the Turbo Legacy one is pretty much the same i believe, can anyone confirm.

If you buy new get a metal one from a newer wrx 06ish, easy to fit on an ej20g. I can get pics later if needed .

I think you will need to make a bracket to fit the metal one

The metal one is not a direct replacement, but it's easy enough to make it work. It's the only way to go in my eyes.

The old Legacy turbo one is not the same. Doesn't even mount on the same side and is higher volume.

Just connected the two large hoses together with a brass coupler.

I don't have a wrx radiator in mine so I didn't have to worry about the small ones.

Will that sacrifice the turbo's ability to cool down ? Like since there isn't any coolant flowing through it?

Coolant still flows through the turbo, there's just no reservoir. The idea behind the reservoir was to keep coolant circulating after shutdown I believe. But I haven't had any problems without it.

Oh alright, that makes sense, well i have one coming soon, and its rigged up so that there is still coolant flowing.

The top tank is also the highest point in the system. When you bypass it, you have no way to fill it up
You have also defeated the ability of the system to "weep" and for expansion and pressure.. As you know, the radiator cap has a set pressure threshold that allows coolant to overflow into the overflow bottle. I can understand how you would do a "quik fix" by bypassing it to get home but running it permanently bypassed... is a dodgy bad idea.

Also a good replacement one is from a 1995- ej20g/k etc. they had a metal one. cheap on ebay these days.

I don't have the turbo radiator with the extra fittings on mine. So it's set up like a non turbo car. I fill it up at the cap on the radiator. It's been fine for a year and a half like that, I'm not so worried about it.

Of course now that makes more sense. Thats how I do conversions on older models, by retaining the NA radiator, as the larger turbo unit wont fit on the lower support.
I thought you had a turbo model. Lol as you were

Necro-bump! Per the GC8 Owners Bible, the coolant tank part numbers are:

Plastic tank - 21132AA001
Metal tank - 21132AA040

These include some hoses. The tank is not available by itself. Additionally, these are not available in the USDM Subaru parts system.

If the following is referred to as the "coolant reservoir" and/or as the "coolant tank"...

...then what is this called?

Yeah, you're probably right... but is it really "overflow"? From what I understand about the coolant system, when the engine gets hot, coolant flows into this reservoir. When the engine cools down, coolant is then drawn back from where it came.

So I dunno... calling it "overflow" when the system is designed to work in this manner seems odd IMO.
