Used to be for 3 years (Compaq BILINGUAL tech support then Cox Cable High Speed Internet support).

God laid-off at both jobs and found my current Annual Fund (development for Salvation Army) Donor Database job and haven't looked back.

I do not miss it one bit.

...but i do get the usual 3-4 calls a month from friends/family asking for PC help

I probably spend 2-4 hours a week on the phone with the helpdesk per week where I work. It really frustrates me to hear the simple troubleshooting stuff like "restart your computer, close the program and re-open it, are you sure you have that program installed?"

I know you guys hafta do it, but its annoyin to me, lol.

I am only in IT to the extent that I'm way too lazy to explain what I actually do, which is sort of IT, but not really.

I wish I was in IT, my iq is not high enough

I would love to be writing code in Southern California on my Ipad while sipping mojitos getting a Blowjay from an emo beach girl.

You have a heavily distorted view of IT.

Some please supply this guy with a pic of your typical IT employee/work environment.

Im not in IT and I have to go through that with 99% of the people because I had to deal with a woman the other day who thought she was going to lose all her icons because I was going to replace her non working monitor... People are not too bright thats why you get asked the 0 IQ questions like...is your computer plugged in? or why is my sound not working...did you try unmuting your PC... oh ok that worked...lol

Thats a little misleading.

1. They are outside, outside of their hydrostatic air conditioned server room.

2. Those guys weren't IT guys, they were software engineers. slight difference.

but the pic does portray the basics of the skills needed/emotional state/dress code of IT.
