Default 2016 wrx side mirrors loose

Hey all. Yes the car is under warranty. Yes I can take it to the dealer and eventually will

Now that we have that out of the way!

Those of you with a 2015+ wrx take a walk up to your side mirrors and grab it with both hands and see if you have play in it (front to back).
I remember when I bought the car they were pretty tight and they seem to be loosening up over time. The passenger side is much looser than the driver and I just wondered if anyone else noticed this.

I know the 14 outbacks have a tsb for an updated part that tightens up the mirrors but I was wondering if the wrx’s Did and if anyone has info on that.

Thanks!

Is there a reason you want to do this?

Do they move a lot and change your mirror setup? Just wondering what the point of this is, I don't think I have ever grabbed a mirror and tried to move it.

You worried about it falling off?

Maybe it's that way from the factory so in case someone walking bumps it it won't break off as easily ? Idk

Point being I believe it is a problem. Vibration is a killer of electronics, plastics, metals and just about everything.
I have never had a car where the side mirrors have lateral movement and I do not believe it is normal.
Hence my asking the group.

As far as bumping into it, I see what you are saying, but I do not believe that is the case here.

I will of course look into it and report back but I had hoped the wealth of accumulated knowledge here could provide an answer.

I'd be more worried if it was upwards/downwards movement, or extensive/retractive movement. Forward/backward is (to a degree) normal in all cars nowadays, but if it's getting loose (ie. more loose than a normal "snap forward, snap back"), that's something you could probably ask your shop to tighten up (or put in a note to your dealership to cover under the 3-year bumper to bumper warranty).

Typical piece of **** Subaru build quality, to be frank. My car didn't last a single midwest winter being used as a true daily driver. I'm really hoping someone runs a red light and just destroys my front end some day because the bumper cover is falling apart, the wheel wells are half gone, and EVERYTHING is loose.

The annoying thing with that is how expensive the stupid plastic parts are that hold the front end together it would be rediculous to buy them.

I would go to town with some duct tape/glue/ zip ties to fix it.

hahaha...It seems many have had the same experience as you. I can really appreciate when I see 10+ year old subies driving around in mint condition with higher miles because I know how much the owner would have had to baby it!!!

They run forever and will get through anything but they certainly wont look good doing it!!!

my 2005 looks like hell too...

Wow! I'm surprised they didn't use hex bolts in the first place. I'll take that everytime over phillip head screws.

How do I delete a comment? I've been stuck on this for an hour.
