Question Transmission shop recommendation

Can anyone recommend a good transmission shop somewhere in the east valley of phoenix?

My brother has an 07 wrx with about 75 - 80k on it... Been making some whining clunking noise coming from what we thought was a bad wheel bearing. Chandler Subaru is saying it may be a "front diff bearing" that has gone bad. They cant say for sure until they open it up. This will apparently cost anywhere from 2 - 4 k to fix it. Is this crazzy talk or is this what it cost to tear apart a trans?

Thanks for any help...

Im not sure if this situation applies to your 5speed,it makes a constant whirling noise. for a while subaru used inferior bearings on the center diff and transfer gears. They replace these bearings as regular maintenence on the earlier wrx 5speeds. Its about a 6 on a scale of 1-10 to do it yourself and about 125$ plus about 50$ for press work. Helps to have a good solid vise and u can get 3of 4 bearings off yourself. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2071286

Doug at Race Technik is probably the best subaru transmission guy in the valley. His shop is located in Mesa.

It might cost a less going somewhere else, but its not going to be "cheap" either way, I would just find another trans for sale and swap it in
