Not needed if it's a dedicated drag car. Hell, you dont even "need" them on the street if you have your struts set real stiff. Of course, the car still won't handle well.

I thought that on AWD cars, swaybars( stiffer/bigger ones) would help with the grip out of the line.

swaybars do nothing in a straight line. the only time in drag racing they would make any difference is if you have a car that is prone to wheel hoping, it might help a little with that.

Some guys I know, will run no sway on the rear..not sure how safe that is,but you really don't need one going in a straight line.

removing the fsb lets the front end lift up more naturally and in the back they use anti roll bars like this one http://chassisengineering.com/products/908.jpg it has no flex where a sway bar would have some flex. keeps the rear end level. subarus that makes that kind of torque are definately few and far between. so for all intents and purposes, its safe to say its a waste of time to think of how swaybars will affect your subaru in drag racing. |

If a vehicle with sway bars is going 100mph in a straight line down a highway, the swaybars are doing absolutely nothing. If a vehicle is going 15 mph in a straight line over a long speedbump, the swaybars are doing absolutely nothing. If you put the car up on 4 jackstands, the swaybars are still doing absolutely nothing. The only time swaybars will do anything is when the left and right of the vehicle are not at the same spring bound/rebound. |

Since subarus have independent rear suspension (and they're all wheel drive for that matter) a sway bar will do jack squat. |

I think a sway bar will neither hurt or help you at the drag strip. The only advantage i can see from removing it would be weight savings.Leaving It could help a wheel hop issue. My car pulled high 1.6s with my cusco rear sway bar still on the car. This was with 32psi in the fuzion zri tires(235/40/17) Ill let you know what i pull on radials here in a couple weeks.
