Default EGT guage pegged?!?!

So i went and installed a used EGT guage and sensor on my car the other day, and at first i had it installed but the sensor hadnt been put in yet because i didnt have the tools to tap the mani at the time. Guage would turn on and electric motor would calibrate to 0 as it should i figure. I finally get aorund to tapping my mani a few days later and i put the sensor in the mani and now it is pegged at 1600F?? i figure it might be that the line has a short in it somewhere. BTW this is an autometer EGT and Sensor just so you know.

Now the sensore has a SS braided line over the wire and a spring type screwed into the top to keep the wire up and out i suppose.

I just want to know what you guys think am i on the right track that it is a short some where and i should clip the wire and replace it and re wrap it and startover? maybe it is shorting agianst the SS cover?

I just want to know if it could be anything else before i go and clip my lines.

Kris
