Default 500 hp goal

how difficult would it be to get a 2.5 RS to reach near 500hp, how far would i have to go turbo and intercooler wise?
what else do you think i wouldn need.

At the crank? At the wheels? Reliably? Auto or manual trans?

Try being a little more vague next time.

manual tranny, money is somewhat not an object, preferably at the wheels and it would be a street car.

i would like around 450 - 500 hp and still be a reliable car, im sure it would take more money to have both reliability and that amount of hp but im also sure its well worth it.

Street car as in for the street or street car as in daily-driven?

I can almost say with 100% assuredness that you cannot make a 500hp to the wheels Impreza with a manual transmission that you can drive for daily use. Unless, of course, you're completely comfortable with driving a full dog-box transmission everywhere.

if you buy me one, i'll show you

hmmmm.... 450-500 HP, huH? Yea...the engine can do it, you'll be limited by the transmission.

I guess what can be done to make that much HP without making too much torque to kill gearboxes is if you were able to safely rev the engine a couple thousand rpm's higher than stock.

There are definitely a limited number of people that can really speak from experience on what you need there

Happy would be one in that range -- it's also probably worth your while to give Trey Cobb a call and get his input, since he's among the few in the states to really dig into the heads and valvetrain to the extent you'd need to if you wanted that type of power.

I like a fast car as much as the next guy/gal, but why? Why do you want 450-500 wheel hp? What are you going to do with it?

Personally, I think about 250-300 is a better number to shoot for. You can get a reliable 2.2Lt block, 2.5RS top end and engine management for a nice reliable package.

Once you cross that 300 barrier, you start needing a whole host of other parts. Upgraded driveshafts, tranny, etc...

Deep, very deep

I guess it comes down to what you're used to. I started off with an STi4, and it wasn't long before I started modding it. Got bored, and so it goes on. 3 years later, and I'm still going........

*****, I hope I'm satisfied with what I end up with this time

I'm not familiar with the RS, but it sounds like I was lucky starting with the STi.

i live in miami (honda city) up until a few months ago i was the only one of my friends without a car.. and look what i have to compete with
a 1995 toyota supra 420 hp
a 1991 MR2 3S-GTE-II
and a 1995 RX-7.... until i bought this car all i owned was a bike, (i needed to keep up with something) people here in miami dont care about rally, they dont care much for anything slow either... almost all the youth in miami is tuning themselves a car one way or another.. im pretty sure its not like that all across the country, hell in other parts of the country im sure rally is the only type of racing possible... seeing as hitting anything more than 110mph is impossible out in the boondocks where i have seen most subaru owners do live... but out here in miami its all wide open expressways and interstates... trips to the florida keys ... last one there buys the first round... you think i can afford to lose that? i dont thinkkk sooo.... so i see it this way... we leave the rallying to you folks in the styx and you leave street racing to the cubans over in miami.

we have acura integras breaking a 300 barrier... its sad really... but when you need roll cages to take a drive down to the beach... you know there is a need to adapt... unless you want to move along at the same speed as "normal" traffic.. in that case... more power to those who buy the wrx instead of a 2.5l then after adding turbo and intercooler... il stick to boosting 30psi

if money is not an issue I would reccomend getting rid of your tranny and getting either a dog box if you want to keep your 4wd drive or getting rid of the whole thing all together and buying one of the RWD trannies that Cusco uses on their road cars. they are sold out of the UK for about 20-30 grand.. but hey you said money was not important.

you'll have to get like 8:1 compression a stand alone engine managment get a huge t78 turbo and a huge FMIC and an exhaust so big you can stick your head in the tip.
probably have to use the EJ25 block and get the case closed by cobb and then use either the phase II heads or shell out money for STi Heads, I believe they have something similar to VTEC too.

And now because you live in Florida and its so damn hot you can only use race Fuel and will spend 100 bucks on a tank of gas. You will also probably need to go with mentanol injection aswell to cool down your engine and up compression and add extra fuel, and becuase of that you will need to do oil changes every weekend and replace parts twice a year....

by time you are done with all of that is buying a round of shots really all that bad?

you can get an easy head start by purschasing a turbo kit from JC sports

Actually, I've heard that for about $10k you can get a 6-speed sequential automatic from Prodrive... don't know anyone that has even asked further about it, though. That'd be the same trans. as used in the rally car, I believe.

Hmmmmmm, don't know where this came from, but you'd need about $10k for the Prodrive dogbox, and I reckon the sequential would set you back closer to $60k~70k. I saw one a couple of weeks ago, it was about to be fitted into a WRC car. It looked AWSOME.

Default Read, The more you know

Read the My Project thread in this forum. It's about just such a car that is being built up by a memeber it will give you an idea of what kind of undertaking it really is.

So, you bought the RS thinking that you would want to turn it into a monster horsepower car, or it was all you could afford?
If money was not not a factor to me, and I just really wanted to go fast, I would have bought a car with a turbo engine from the factory just like you friends did (I would go with a Supra probably).

Although, I do commend you on your efforts in wanting to build up a monster RS, it takes much much time and tons of money. Not to mention, and I am not sure how much YOU know about cars, but everyone who seems to be building them to 500+ HP is mostly doing it themselves, not dropping it at a shop and saying "build me a 500 HP car". Names that come to mind are DJImpreza, ImprezaRS.com, Happy, and a few others.

So, I guess what I am trying to say is its obviously easier to build a monster Supra or RX-7, and the time to build a monster RS would be mucy, but rewarding.

I'm just going to say that if those are your main competetors you don't stand a chance Since anyone of those three cars could most likely (two of them for sure) put out double what you can get a RS to do safetly AND they would still be daily drivers, you should just sell it know and go buy yourself a Supra! Oh yea, turbo RS's frequently hit 110 no matter where you are City or Bonnies

Default Only 110?

I know that there were quite a few time here in the boonies I used poor judgement and hit the rev-limiter on my RS-T. With the 6,500 redline of the MY98 I belive that was around 150? Oh and just to be clear that was in 5th.

a 450 hp 2.5RS would take a supra and send it packing, and supra being the fastest of those three cars.. download 'Getaway in Stockholm' that cosworth takes the supra and makes it his b**ch
the supra only tops out more for the fact that it has a 6th gear, but pick up goes to the cosworth... a 450 would also take a ferrari in pickup.. dont beleive me. i have videos to prove it. btw: im from miami antirice25RS is right street cars are very competetive down here and alot of the imports (japanese) are really giving it to those italian imports.
not to put down anyone who says otherwise but if you haven't seen what a finely tuned 2.5 can do to an exotic supercar you would understand that the only thing you get when buying one of the supercars is lack of a cupholder. :monkey:
