DAMD Flat Bottom Steering Wheel - 2011 STI Sedan (correct wheel this time)
Ordered the right wheel this time. Nice. Yeah, last time was for the GD or legacy or some other model audio controls. Bummer. But here we are...
FYI, got it from Avo JDM in Japan Impressions (bear in mind I also just put my winter 17" wheels/tires on, too... But don't think that'd make a major major difference as the wheel seems to have): 1. Sick. 2. Minor getting used to the D, but nothing difficult. 3. Smaller, makes a perfect U turn now 4. Dude: Steering response is quick, much more accurate feeling; your arm movement actually corresponds to what it should in wheel movement 5. More resistance!!! Hell yeah. That's the number one annoying thing on the GR--the light steering 6. Sick 7. Yeah, so the combined aspects of more resistance and shorter, more accurate turning = beautiful. 8. And looks don't hurt either...

That's awesome.
I will be needing one of those. How long does it take to arrive ? Also... Did you do the airbag swap yourself, or did you have the dealer do it ? Thanks. Last edited by sti04dude; 12-22-2010 at 12:35 PM. |

Fast... Maybe a few days for processing, then maybe 3-5 business days.
Alchy... custom cluster hood wrapped by JPM coachworks in black Alcanatara w/ red stitching. Just responded to the delivery time question above - I had my shop do the swap, only 'cause I didn't have the right tools on me. It's straightforward, really. Plug and play. |

To some people its not about the cost. Quality=cost. Want good stuff then you pay up. But also for some styling is more important than performance. I wouldn't pay that much for a steering wheel now as their is lots other mods I want first for that, but when all said and done I wouldn't mind buying a damd or prova for $700-800

Exactly. I prefer the prova one over damd but both are very nice. they keep stock airbag, stock cruise control or buttons for newer models. Its also not just the cost to wrap a steering wheel but also the shipping cost, time without the car and the prova and damd are about 25mm smaller which is a huge difference.

I paid $665 shipped to my door from Japan. If I knew it was going to give me more responsive steering, with more feedback and direct communication, I would have paid $800 in a heart beat. But I paid 665 shipped. Actually I paid 630 shipped, but that's because I goofed, bought the wrong one the first time, and begged them to give me a 5% discount (since I didn't want to pay to ship the wrong one back to Japan for a return...ended up selling it for $670 in the states, btw). To be clear: they used to charge $665 PLUS $80 shipping (745). But the link that gte123v posted - if you convert from yen - is about $600 unless the yen conversion has changed drastically over the last few weeks. And shipping was 65. If I had to choose two mods, I'd choose AP and this steering wheel. |

IMHO the GR steering wheel looks much better than the GD style.
I wish someone would sell me their GR style steering wheel |

800 dollars to upgrade the part of the car you touch and interact with the most...especially considering the factory wheel is not great doesn't seem bad.
