Default Wheel bearing replacement on 2008+ wrx

Anyone in here change a wheel bearing by replacing the hub on a 2008+ wrx or sti? I've got one going bad and am trying to figure out a good way to get a socket at the 4 bolts connecting the hub to the knuckle. Nothing I have will work, the axle is in the way (even when turning the wheel). What have you done? I'd hope this can be done without disconnecting the ball joint, tie rod, and strut to remove the whole knuckle. Please let me know any tricks or a tool that'll get to the bolts.

I'm assuming I need to remove the knuckle to pull the axle out of the hub?

Again. You have to take the axle out. There's no way around it. And/or disconnect it front the LCA and remove the hub.

I really don't see how else you can do it.

Subaru wouldn't warranty it because of the aftermarket wheels!

That sucks.

Getting the axle out on my car was a PITA. The CV joint near the trans had more of an angle so the pry bar kept slipping.

You may be OK on your 2011 though.

It would be easier to take the whole hub off and leave the axle in the trans so you don't have to deal with loss of fluid. Pop out the ball joint from the LCA, pop out the outer tie rod. Then remove the axle nut and disconnect the shock. Remove the brake caliper and zip tie it to the shock/spring so it's not hanging by the brake line. Then carefully remove the ABS sensor. The whole knuckle should come off the car when doing that.

Be careful not to tear the boot on the outer tie rod. It's hard to get a proper tool on there. When I did it, I just jammed a pickle fork in there and shredded up the boot since it was faster and i didnt care cause I was replacing the outer tie rods anyway.
