Exhaust ticket in MD
Hi,
Just got a ticket for modified exhaust / excessive noise. Has anyone had any experience with this? I am currently running a turbo xs cat back with an uncatted downpipe. If I replace just the muffler, would that suffice?

Wow, sorry about that, usually it's just a warning. Just got to say you bought it like that, or it was fixed the gasket must have blew or just make some b/s up. Unfortunately if you got the ticket in your local town I'm sure that cop will keep an eye out for your car so mabe your best option would be to run a little more modest setup.

I would just change the catback and call it a day. Then if he pulls you over again tell him you changed it idk

Disappointed with the fact the you got a ticket for having aftermarket exhaust...? Didn't you know this could happen the moment you switched from stock?

Yeah, you're right. I knew this was a possibility when the modifications were made but I still am disappointed at myself, because I always try my best to drive carefully and quietly.

Hi. Any updates on this? I want to put on a Corsa and I’ve heard its not crazy loud, but I really don’t want to have to take it off. Did a nosey neighbor complain? Or did you get pulled over with it?

All they can really do is issue a repair order. I think if you get multiple ROs then you can be fined for not repairing. The whole modified exhaust thing is kind of bogus. It's totally subjective since there is no decibel level in the law, nor is there any measuring device. It's all up to the officer's discretion. When I was a MD state inspector I would always sign off on the repair orders as long as the exhaust passed state inspection, even if it was aftermarket, which most of them did.
