I don't recall all of the vendors who sell brake pads, but 'WRXBrakes' is usually on here and helping people out. They carry those as well as several other options. I'm certain they can match you up with the best product for your needs.
There are plenty of people who have used the HPS pads. If you search for HPS in this forum I'm sure you'll find plenty of discussions and reviews that can help you out. |

Correction, that's $1450 OEM or $700 after market for REAR pads and rotors (NO front, today I'm told their records say my front stuff is fine), they still haven't told me which aftermarket parts exactly. Waiting for their parts person to call back.
Need to make time and call WRXbrakes. Not sure if I'll have time to work myself, but this is getting ridiculous. |

I always have HPS Pads here if you need any, as well as a few others you might be interested in.

Can anyone provide some suggestions for what to look for in a pad to avoid shuddering due to pad material build-up (commonly referred to as 'warped rotors') on a fairly gently street-driven car?
I've read all of the braking threads and most of them are targeted at keeping n00bs from buying blinged-out rotors to solve their Starbucks street cred issues, and rightly so I've got a bit of a different problem that I haven't seen addressed -- Base '08 Impreza (yes, rear drums and hubcaps all 'round). The brakes keep having pad build-up problems. First surfaced at ~20k miles, bedded in the brakes, all was good.. for a few thousand miles.. then it came back. Sure, I can keep bedding the pads, but it shouldn't be happening to begin with, so I'd like to solve the root cause once and for all. Dealership "fixed" the problem (likely by turning the rotors), but that solution only worked for a few thousand as well. Not a technique issue; the car is generally street driven short distances and the brakes aren't either hammered on, nor dragged (no left-foot braking, no riding the brakes, etc). It most often surfaces when coming out of the mountains. I take care to brake moderately hard but briefly before the corner, then stay off the brakes for a long time. There's no reason they should be heating up excessively, I don't ride the brakes all the way down the hill like the clueless. Yet this problem keeps coming back. I've never even had brake issues in other cars on the track, so I don't think my technique is the problem (and no, the Impreza has not been on the track). I'm thinking of something like the Axxis Deluxe or maybe the Ultimate Ceramics, as I've used both with good results (a fine street pad, no issues with cold bite). My problem is that, ultimately, I don't understand the root cause. I don't think technique is an issue, but I have a really hard time believing that I'm overheating the pads with street driving like this. At this point (over 40k miles), the rotors may be going as well. I'll have to check it out and consider replacing those as well. But I don't want to throw on new rotors and pads and find the same issue. thanks for any suggestions to keep this from coming back! |

The root cause is the stock brake pads.
They can't take heat w/out crapping all over the rotors. 3200 lbs/small brakes/mountain driving = hot brakes |

Stock pads are notorious for leaving deposits, especially cold deposits. Meaning, even when the pads arent warmed up to operating temperature, if you sit stopped at a light, the pads will leave crap on the rotors.
Next time you get home after driving somewhere, sit in the driveway holding the brakes for about 60 seconds, roll the car back a foot, and then get out and look at the imprints of your pads on your rotors. I ditched the OEMs (which were done anyway) for the Stoptech that Ken sells. I had to re-bed the OEMs every 10k or so to get the pulse to go away. I havent had that problem with the Stoptechs, and to be honest, if youre not hammering on the brakes, they will likely be more than sufficient for you. |

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm glad to have a simple, confident explanation that the pads are indeed the issue.
I looked at Ken's site yesterday and also thought the Stoptechs looked like a great option, especially for the price. I'll have to take a look at the rotors before buying pads to see if those need to go too; at 40k that's a solid possibility. I see no need for aggressive pads; I've been fine with stock pads on BMWs, even for the track, though I currently run Axxis Ultimate Ceramics on my 'fun' car. Honestly only 'upgraded' those because when I did pads and rotors at 70k I thought it was time to try something different. So I'm sure quality street pads are all I need for the Impreza. |

As a followup, I bought a pair of Centric standard rotors and the Stoptech street pads from WRXBrakes's KNSBrakes.com site. I put them on about 3 weeks ago. They actually worked before I bedded them in which is more than I can say about most pads I've used!
Once bedded in, they perform great. Seem to have great initial cold bite, better than stock. No shudder yet. Will have to report back after I bomb down out of the mountains a few times, but I'm considering my braking issues solved. Thanks for the advice WRXBrakes and cucamelsmd15! |

This is great! Too bad I did not read this before doing the brake job on my 2002 wrx .
Quick question for anybody since I now have issues with the (I think it's the rotor). When I changed the rotors from Stock to AC Delco with Hawk HP pads, the 2 bolts/screws that were sort of holding the Rotor to the knuckle did not fit with the new Rotors. I let them out because I figured the wheel would hold them well on there but It seems to have a little bit of loose when I hit a bump I can hear it bounce (metalic noise) and when I hit the brakes, I do hear it clicking back in (fairly loud noise). I could use a little help on how to solve this issue... Thanks! |

Thanks so much for the information
I like how the article went in depth with the differences. You see I have been told before that Ceramic were simply the best pads to get, but it seems semi metallic would be far more to my liking. A very good thing to know! |

Thank you for the article! I sticky'd this article awhile back read it and now I am in need of brakes!
So I read the thread again and am looking for some advice on front pads and rotors. I have an 08 2.5i Premium with disc brakes all the way around. I purchased larger caliper brackets as I am looking to upgrade to WRX rotors and a better pad for the car. I would say I mostly DD the car, but I do have a lot of suspension goodies and I do like to have fun on the weekends or after a ****e day at work. Any suggestions? I know nothing of aftermarket pads, as I see people referencing hawk, ebc and the like. Any help would be appreciated! |

Recently, I pay some attention to the brake pads linings, this artical seems very useful and great readability. I notice there is another excellent artical show this topic through another side, I maybe a brake pads factory, or somethings like this.
