Rallitek Cams review and dyno
I had Rallitek's cams installed last week and tuned at Renner Motorsports.
And the results are in... No, the results were not as great as I had hoped. But I'm glad that I haven't lost any power throughout the band. The car is probably no faster than it was before. It just feels fit. Or like the weather is about 20 degrees colder outside. Here's the reality of performance tuning an NA Impreza. $250 (cams) + $450 (installed) + $350 (tuned) = $1050 for 4hp/6ft lb That's $262 per addition horsepower. Anyway. Just thought I'd share. The guys at Renner Motorsports in Inglewood CA are all right. They know what's they're doing and they are honest.

could you share what other supporting modifications you've done to the engine?

Damn, I was expecting at least twice what you got. So the lower lines are stock and the upper lines are with cams and a tune? Those torque curves look really similar for being before and after with a cam installed.

The Rallitek cams aren't as OMGWTFBBQ as they are made out to be. You have to remember that they are a very mild torque grind...and in all honesty, it is very hard to tell the difference between the 2 when they are side by side. I even had my doubts that they were reground at all.
I go in for my tune today after installing the cams last month and doing my 1000 mile relash a couple of days ago. The difference between my car and his is that I have full exhaust. My tune is going to be a road tune as opposed to his dyno tune. BTW op, you most likely have my old cams in your car now. Take good care of them. |

I think this is more evidence supporting the fact that pouring money into the NA EJ25 is absolutely useless.

How are the Delta 1000s compared to these?

Are these the cams in the rallitek heads? If so, are they intended for heads with p&p, +1 valves, good headers? And would the gains be a % of the total power made or more like similar gains to the op's?

I think the heads have more agressive cams, i'm assuming these are the mild grind.
Supposedly Rallitek got around +20WHP with these cams and a tune |

I can't help but wonder if some shipping monkey somewhere (and I say that with all due respect, since I AM a shipping monkey!) stuck a set of cores in a regrind box. 4-6 hp with cams and tune seems impossible.

This. While researching potential mods for my 2.5i for the past few months, most tunes (with minimal supporting mods other than maybe an intake and catback) that i've seen have been in the 5-8HP range.

I have to agree with NH and BAN. The fact that your before and after curves are pretty much the same except with relation to y offset leads me to believe that you didn't get reground cams.

After getting my tune done this evening, I can say that they did make an overall difference...but it's hard to say how or where. I definitely wouldn't say a 20whp difference. My tuner had to increase the fueling and decrease the timing.
For ****s and giggles, I'd like to see a set of Delta 1000's (since they are the closest thing to these) side by side with a set of Rallitek's. Like I said earlier, when I set the stock sticks next to the Ralliteks, I couldn't see much of a difference at all...if any. OP...you have a pm. |

I guess like other mods, cams will benefit more if I did other mods.
It's just, the exhaust system is too big of a headache for californians to worry about. I only have two more years of emissions bypass registration. I wonder how much p&p would cost... And... I guess I'd have to tune it again, huh. It's not like granturismo where you can ecu tune once and that's good for every mod afterwards. Puhaha. Alison definitely sounds different though, metallically different. It's not the growly noise you get when you run too rich or whatever the opposite of that sound is when you run too lean. It's ... More... Dare I say... Boxer rumble-esq. |

1) I really think that there's something to be said for the single biggest problem with these cars being the headers. When I finally got headers that didn't suck (TWE), EVERYTHING worked better.
2) I have to admit that I think it's at least possible these aren't re-ground cams. I don't agree with the argument that the lack of change to the shape of the graph is proof the cams didn't change. The fueling change shown at the bottom alone should have changed the shape of the graph. On the other hand, no change in shape at all with new cams is highly suspicious. |

I have no proof of this whatsoever, but Alison feels like she pulls harder than the day it came out.
I think it might be due to the gasoline type. I had her tuned at 89 pump. Now I've put 91. Maybe that's why but she feels great. =) Maybe it's because I have 500 rpms more on top to breathe. hehehe. It's not crazy high but 7000 feels and sounds pretty sweet. Yay for tuned cars~ |

If you didn't have detonation on 89 octane, putting in 91 didn't affect performance in any way.

You do also have that extra RPMs but you're not gaining horsepower.

That's true. By 6.5k, you're down to where you were stock. I'm not going to do the work to prove it, but it looks like your optimal shift point is 6.5k or just a little below. That means you're going slower by running to 7kRPM and all you're doing is abusing the engine more.
If you want to figure out your optimal shift point correctly, you can read how to do it here |

That sucks. I looked up on their site it said they should give you 20+ hp i think.
But thats not worth it. Does it sound louder out of the engine? If not the power it should at least make a nice sound. |
