I had a great time out there, my times while not great, were getting better in the morning and I didn't have any penalties. But once I got in the mud after lunch I couldn't get any traction. My tires were so caked with mud it felt like I was driving on ice. I didn't even bother with my 4th run in the afternoon.

So are there any tricks/tips for cleaning the car afterwards? I hosed off the wheel wells and underbody, and washed the rest but I still worry about mud and stuff in the hard to reach places.

I'm looking forward to next season!
First. Get a pressure washer and wash the undercarriage (hopefully, with the car on jack stands).

Second, if you want more traction, get snow tires. I have a spare set of 16" snow tires that would work great for rallycross and this winter.

PM if you want to talk about price.

Also, invest on a skid plate and mud flaps whenever you have a chance if you want to keep playing in the dirt.

Thanks for the tips. I actually have a set of rims and winter tires that I used for the event. They were great until the mud. Maybe they just weren't fresh enough?

I have mud flaps as well. But they are pretty stiff and I kept scraping them on the rougher parts and I think it broke some clips on my rear bumper. I might trim them down or something before next time. I will also look into getting a skid plate for the front and one for the rear diff as well.

Here's the thing about the mud at Summit: No matter what tires you run, you're not going to feel like you have any traction. Sure, brand-new snow tires or brand-new rally tires may help you bite a bit more on turn-in at the front, due to the still-squared tread edges. But overall it may save you a second or two initially, but your tires are going to wear down regardless so that sharp edge will only be good for a couple events at best. Then you're back to "what everyone else has...." worn edges.

The main thing is to improve driving. I sucked at the mud conditions early in the season. Now I don't suck quite as much. Maybe next year I'll actually be "ok" at it Really it's a matter of going in slower so you don't push through in the front, and use the throttle to rotate the rear end.

But really, Summit is just really slippery when wet. I do a ton of snow driving (in a WRX with Wintersport M3s), and the worst ice I've ever been on is no worse than when the water truck comes through at summit.

but don't fret, there is one thing you have going for you: you drive a subaru. Try doing the mud with us in the RWD classes

Truth! It's basically an exercise to see how few cones you can hit while maintaining a slide.

The worst part is that we put it in the wrong spot and he just crunched it with his back wheel instead of center-punching it like we planned

But have you used it before? I am wondering if connecting a regular hose will give it enough pressure to remove the pancakes. Specially on the hard to reach places.

It took Gorka and I a while to wash the RX7 with a 3.500psi pressure washer....

As always, I enjoyed shooting this event and I look forward to next season. Especially with the new (to me) gear. I'm hoping for REALLY good things next year.

love it. And for the record, I was +6 on that last one.

Next year we'll have our own cone(s) to mount up there. For aero. And because being silly gets 3 pics of my car in a row

It's OK. I read for volume, and not comprehension as well.

Ive not tried it myself. I have the single jet underbody lance. That said, I may order one for the mower deck and the try it on the rally car.

I just spent the morning with the car up on ramps and stands pressure-washing the whole thing underneath

Especially important since I'm going a drivetrain swap over the winter, and bolts and stuff caked in Summit clay would not be much fun!

I didn't get to race in any the RallyX events this year but I'm making up for that now.

The wife and I are in Mexico and on our way to the start of the Maya Rally.
The race finishes in southern Mexico and, if we have time, are considering a long post-race road-trip thru Belize and Guatemala.

If the car survives all that I'll be back for the 2013 RX season.
