Default 2JZ No *****!

Well this was the final straw for me having an EJ as a power plant. Sick of this ****.

First motor, preventatively removed and replaced with a built Outfront CDB. Outfront doesn’t seat wrist pin clip fully, pin walks out, ruins block. I then get a warrantied shortblock and decide to build the heads with a full suit of GSC products. Get it all together, get dyno tuned to 616 whp and 545 wtq. Get back home and tweak tune to elevation. Make first pass on highway after completed tune. At the top of 2nd gear all hell let’s go and engine seizes.

So I rip the motor apart an find that for some reason my gsc +1 mm valve has raped cylinder 3. It sent metal into the IM and into all cylinders. Wild amounts of damage. I couldn’t believe it.

Build overview
-Haltech elite 2500 ecu with all bells and whistles
-Borg s364.5sx-e turbo
-Closed deck outfront block
-I beam Manley turbo tuff rods
-cp pistons
-1/2” studs
-GSC beehive springs
-GSC s2 billet cams
-GSC +1 valves
-heads built by outfront
-tuned on ethanol (flexfuel too)
-37psi

Engine teardown notes and supporting info
-timing was correct
-tune was good (have data log from 30 secs prior to failure)
-only issue was the one broken intake valve
-no debri wrecked the valve
-bottom end bearings fine
-no signs of det.
-cylinder did not overheat. Have egt probes in each cylinder.
-rev limit 7500 rpm
-keepers and retainers still attached to stem

Such a waste. Lol

So instead of selling the car and buying a different car, I decided to make this one into what I want. After all I love fabrication. So the car is now going RWD with a 2JZ. New engine arrives tomorrow and then the fab begins.

I’ll be posting lots of pics of the swap on my IG @lelandsti if you are interested.

I now have all my rear end components figured out. Doing an r200 with vlsd from a 350z with new 350z axles and hubs. I’m getting the hubs machined to accept the Subaru wheel bearing and then machine out the rear rotor slightly. They are 2 piece rotors so I’m not concerned with having to do that each time I need new rotors.

Got the diff cleaned up and painted, now just to powder coat the cover with all the other parts later.

Is the melted metal on the Piston a melted valve or is that the Piston?

That’s just the piston top after being pounded by the valve head at 7500 rpm.

Good luck with your build! I’ll be watching. I’m on my forth ej in 11k miles. My luck has been as good as yours.

Hubs, axles and wheel bearings arrived and I have now cut my rad support out. It will now bolt back in and make fab work much easier. Now fully committed haha.

Can't wait to see your mounting solutions so I can pick your brain a bit. Just had to replace the OEM SB with an IAG block but if that goes I'll be following your lead.

The diff is much stronger and larger. The viscous lsd isn’t amazing and I’ll be upgrading that eventually to an aftermarket one.

This is insane! I'm fairly new to the Subaru community and I would've thought a lot of people would call this blasphemy but let me repeat myself, this is insane! In for the finished product.

Thx everyone. Lots of work ahead though. The idea is to make this a clean and highly functional setup with tons of reliable power
