![]() I'm going from Stage 2 WRX to a 2.5L block (no AVCS) so I'll let you know in a few days, although I'll still be Stage 2 with the 2.5L block. I'm gonna make an educated geuss and go with the 06 WRX though.

![]() ![]() The 2.0l makes MORE lowend power... ![]() Obviously the 06 has a lot of other things goign for it that the 2.0l doesn't...but the motor (in THIS case) is not one of them... |

How could that be hard to believe? Its being forced a lot of boost in the low end to make that power.... Thats a STOCK 06 motor... You can clearly see where the 2.0l gets boost shoved at it around 3k, where the 06 motor isn't nearly making as much (thats where the 2.0 takes that big jump...make perfect sense and you can feel it driving...) Low 13's at 100+ sure as heck has to come from somewhere... I would hope a modified 2.0 could hold its own against a stock engine... Jump on the gas in a stock 06, then do it in a 2.0l. They feel fairly similar, the 06 just runs out of gas up top. Done plenty of test pulls with a neighbors 06...the 2.0l on an OTS map is without question a near dead match through the low-middle RPMs for a stock 06...after that...I creep away Again, I'd still take the 06... If you want to see the stage II vs. stage II overlay, I have it from a guy on here... Last edited by REX8; 05-06-2006 at 06:27 PM. |

![]() The 06 is a better daily driver. Easier to drive in the city and in traffic because of the low end torque. It doesn't kick you in the ass when boost comes on strong at higher RPMs like my 05 did. A stage 2 06 WRX should be fun though

![]() Lightened flywheel + lightweight pulleys on the 2.0L block + Stage 2 map and parts = a feeling of more power down low.
In reality the power comes on faster downlow because of the uppipe, but the pulleys and flywheel get the revs up faster so you achieve power in the same range but you're quicker to get to this range. ***Add in port and polished stock headers and you'll get more low end and top end power, plus a more linear powerband. ***Add in an upgraded TMIC or FMIC and you'll get a more linear powerband and *MIGHT* (depending on engine management) see more boost that would give you more power and earlier. ***Add in a port and polished td04 turbo and a port and polished downpipe. Now you have all the bolt ons to get as much power as possible out of the stock turbo. After these bolt ons, if you want more power downlow or anywhere - you're going to have to start building the engine. This is what I'm doing for my 2.0L block (minus the lightened flywheel atleast until my clutch goes and I'm down there anyway). The 2006's will always have a handicap over us, because there's no replacement for displacement. My ideal setup would be H6 or inline six with a quick spooling turbo, or a 2.5L block bored over to 3.0L - thats the only way that we'll ever make power downlow. ![]() I really liked the thread title and was hoping to read more than just "I'd rather drive an '06". My view is that I have an '05 and am jealous of the '06 but I'm not going to trade it in, but after stage 2 on my '05 will I be just about as happy as to how compares with an '06?

It wasn't "Oh a 2.0L Stage 2 will make more power than a 2.5L Stage 2. It was what does a Stage 2 aka modified 2.0L feel like in comparison to a stock 2.5L. There's no replacement for displacement. Of course the 2.5L is going to be a better platform, so long as it flows equally as well as the 2.0L. |
