Default Autocross this weekend (1st and 2nd): Knights Stadium

See http://www.ccrscca.org for details on times, etc.

I'll be out there with the Folger Subaru crowd.. Have some Subaru ProRally posters to give away to anyone that wants them. Should have a tent set up there as well. Saturday is a "Test and Tune" and Sunday will be the actual autocross. I will be there both days I'm sure.

Everyone should come out and enjoy our last real autocross event this season!

@#$%! All you guys are going to be having fun at the last points event and I'm going to be stuck here in the Triangle.

I _might_ motivate and drive down either late Saturday or early Sunday.

Do it slacker! You can watch me attempt to autox on toasted shocks and dead tires.

edit: Hey Steven, if I run timing for 3 out of the 4 heats and keep it going I think we can squeeze 5 runs.

Question

So... how different is the test n tune day from the autocross? I'll be able to make it on Saturday. Is it pretty much a regular autox except no points? Are the runs timed? Do we have to have numbers on the cars? Course work?

Thanks!
Matt

btw, it seems everytime I log on the forums, something's different...

If you want to run.. ya have to work... But we won't be calling in cones or anything. Runs will be timed. I'll have numbers on mine.. dunno if it's mandatory though. And yes.. it's just an autocross for you to get a feel for your car and there will be no points awarded.

Talking

Great! Sounds like a great environment to introduce a friend to autox!

I'll be bringing my #2 subie challenge placards... in case nobody is running that number yet, and maybe some white shoe polish(or electric tape). I really need to cut some magnetic numbers and letters, but it looks like I'll have a long off season to get that finished.

Also, I'll have 3 crush washers free to a good home or homes.

Thumbs up

Had a great time! Steven, the test n tune's "New & Improved" format was perfect for learning the car's limits! I especially liked the skid pad. And thanks to Bill (911 miata) for letting us go a few more rounds on the pad.
What does the lateral G formula convert 22.5 seconds to?
Will any of the times be posted? I'm curious to see where I ranked.

Nice to meet ya crazyhorse, and thanks for the poster and stickers!
Have a good time at the autocross tomorrow guys/gals!
(and be sure to bring some sunblock... )

Glad you enjoyed it! 22.5sec for the diameter we did should convert to high .7x average g's. Pretty good for the tires you were on.

I'll try to get off my rear and type those overall times in.

Awesome! (and on a completely stock suspension too )

I looked through the 30 actual minutes from my camcorder and now I know one thing for sure.... ALWAYS check the zoom on the camera before doing in-car footage. The first lap on the first course was great... then silly me took the camera out to get some more footage. EVERY other in-car clip has a nice closeup of the gravel 50 feet in front of my car. If anyone want to get motion sickness, I'll capture it from the camera and post it. Otherwise, I'll work on the out-of-car videos which are mostly of my car and my friend Christa's MazdaSpeed.

What kind of camera mount do you have? I was going to try to make one myself.

Lightbulb

Let's see...

1 - Cheap Tri-pod from wal-mart (I got one better than the cheapest since it had a quick disconnect camera mount)
3 - 10' Ratchet Tie-downs
1 - small piece of wood (I used an extra shelf from a DVD storage bookcase)

I actually snapped some pictures of it friday night, but they're on my home computer.
Basically, I put 2 legs to the rear floor space behind the front seats, and 1 leg in the middle of the back seat cushion. I use the piece of wood under the leg on the cushion to prevent the seat from getting a permanent dimple when I crank everything down tight. I used 1 tie-down for each of the front legs and secured it around the seat rail legs. The 3rd tie-down is semi-optional and it goes through the child seat anchor on the rear shelf and loops around the top of the tripod to help keep the shakes to a minimum. Pictures later today!
