weird that you went to Dom for the tune and not the motor? Kinda hard to beat their track record. you gonna turn up the boost and test that "closed deck?"

In some ways very similar to my hta68 build tuned by Dom. My tq is similar but comes on much sooner (4200rpm), while I'd love that 28 extra hp up top. I have avcs exhaust cams only and stock valves, which might help explain the low end vs. top end differences.

Well, that and the turbo.

To be totally honest I didnt know MPS even built short blocks when I was in the market for them. If I could go back in time I would most definetely be a MPS motor owner. I fell on a killer deal for this S+R shortblock and couldn't pass it up at the time.
Eventually I will get a meth kit set up (cause E85 is rare in my area) and see what this thing can do. Although not anywhere near S+R's claimed 800 horsepower lol.

Ya this turbo is pretty laggy and Dom even said he wasnt a huge fan but that turbo was on my previous build. You mean intake avcs? Thats all I have as well. I do think the valves help a bit. I hope you were as satisfied by MPS's work as I was. Truly a great experience with excellent results.

Absoutely. Went with an MPS-built block from the start and have been well-taken care of.

Yes, more octane and boost and this thing would open up quite bit.

May I suggest a better flowing air filter and, if in the budget, a better set of headers.

Not the most power out there but an extremely nice powerband, that must be a lot of fun to drive

My goals were 400+ whp while maintaining some reliability on pump gas. E85 will be next once I feel the need for more haha.

As far as air filter I doubt my foam filter is limiting at these power levels, also after reading alot on these headers I discovered they perform excellent for thier price. I mean for a non-rotated, non-twin scoll, and unequal length setup these headers are great. Good gains up top while maintaining decent spool. You cant ask for more than that at $500 bucks. They were even recommended by my tuner .

Thanks, she pulls hard all the way to redline. So much area under the curve after 4300 Rpms, I've never driven a car that felt like this, It's truly a pleasure to drive .

The AP headers are very nice and flow very well. It's possible you are mistaking them for another brand. The primaries are nice and large, the merge collector is beautiful, the welds are great, the finish is gorgeous... I don't think there is anything else that AP makes that I like. Coincidentally, I don't think AP really makes these. Pretty sure they're made in china. Regardless, they fit well, I've never had a set crack in 5 years and I have taken them as high as 600whp while being under 30psi. I sell a lot of them and have great success. My only complaint is the gasket they supply with them for the header to up pipe SUCKS. Since the collector has a larger ID than the stock one, the stock gasket works O.K. but hangs into the pipe. We're having custom gaskets made that hopefully won't fail and will still fit the headers perfectly.

The late peak torque is a testament to the conservative timing. If the timing was aggressive, the peak torque would come in right after peak boost. Instead, the safe timing values at peak boost give the car a flatter section of torque and knock down the peak number.

Hi Dom thanks for replying. Wouldn't the large diameter primaries be slowing the exhaust gas flow and unecessarily slowing spool without adding significant top end flow? For example the Killer B header uses stock diameter (1.5") primaries and as far as I can tell doesn't seem to be top end limited.

I picked up 40whp and spooled 250rpm faster when running 21psi on a GT35R from the factory header with Grimmspeed Crosspipe to this header. Most of my customers see similar results. That would tell me, no, it isn't hurting spool and yes, it is improving flow.

I just measured the ID of the primaries: 1.50 at the flange, but the pipe is really about 1.52" ID with an OD of about 1.7

My experience is the same. The only time smaller runners help is for smaller turbos. There is a point when the runners become the choking hazard of the motor.

Okay, so really same as exhaust port diameter. Thanks for the data.

Looks really good. Nice solid power delivery and a nice safe boost level. Im liking what i see from those aps turbo's. Our numbers are almost identical so i know exactly how it must feel on street. Its taking me 27psi and meth to get there though so im maxed out basically, you have TONS of room left to make more power. This will easily make 500 with a more aggressive tune. Conservative is the way to go though.

I'm not a fan of APS turbos at all. Other turbos on the market perform better. I'm a firm believer in the Blouch turbos and going rotated with garrett turbos.

Agreed, that is one thing (of many) I regret not changing before my build. Im more than happy with the power but really want faster spool.

Dom are you not a fan of ATP/garrett stock location turbos? Or just prefer blouch in the stock location?

I know alot of people love there blouch turbo's but i fully regret mine. Im just not happy with it at all. I like my og 7cm FP green better. Ill be going roatated soon cause im less than impressed. It just didnt do what i expected. Takes way to much to make power. Id be thrilled with over 400whp with 21psi. To each there own tough. Everyone has there opinions and favorites. Nice numbers nonetheless.

No I'm not. I used to push them, but the fitment sucks and the performance is substandard. The oem location has so many shortcomings. Over 400whp I tell everyone to just go rotated and get it over with.

We talked in pm. His results are not typical and I wouldn't be happy either. I suspect either tuning issue. Boost leak or other restriction.
