2015 Subaru WRX Video Review
2015 Subaru WRX First Drive Video Review Watch the full video! Ryan drives the brand-new for 2015 Subaru WRX. Can this new model live up to its heritage? The new WRX is powered by a new 2.0-L flat-four with a twin-scroll turbo making 268hp and 258 lb-ft peak powering all four wheels thanks to Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system (50:50 in the 6MT, 45:55 variable in the CVT.) Pricing was not announced at the time of the review, but we expect it will be close to the outgoing models. Watch it now. Other reviews: Digital Trends, Nick Jaynes Car and Driver, Tony Quiroga

Still don't like the styling. I also shouldn't have to change the head unit out on a brand new car. C'mon Subaru.

Did he say 0-60 in 6 seconds for the CVT?
That piece of plastic does need to go. It seems nice overall, but a little too techy for me. I'll keep my 2013. Things I wish I had from this car: 1. D shaped steering wheel (which I can get myself), 2. Black headliner (can be done, but a pain in the ass), 3. 5X114.3 bolt pattern to get STI wheels. |

I'm also not much of a fan of the faux carbon fiber interior trim, but that's whatever. Don't care for the look of the info screen cluster either, the boost gauge hardly looks any better than Torque pro on my phone lol. I am however, really looking forward to trying out the new 6MT, is it entirely new or from another car? I'm also really looking forward to seeing what the aftermarket guys and tuners are able to pull out of the new DI motor, should be pretty sweet. I'll stick with my '14 (of course I just got it), but I want to wait couple years for them to work out any kinks, and make any tweaks they may need to do. Also the aftermarket will be established for the new drivetrain by then. Plus, by then I'll be making grown-up money so maybe I'll just go to an STI. |

Can I request a death-race version/set of options???.... I want the obvious bullet proof glass and Kevlar door panels with a turret mounted, belt fed .50 cal, with endless supply of tattooed Asian/Latina gunners (I think honda may be able to help soobee with this, they have a robot right?)... then I want the obvious "Spy-Hunter" mods like oil slick and smoke screen.... I think all car "test drives" should include some kind of actual shootout and crash and keep driving test to show the true durability with run flat tires etc... Its just not "real-world" with this 0-60 and 1/4 mile BS....
Its monday... I have no jobs lined up and I'm bored... My apologies... I shall move on and pollute another thread now.... |

The new WRX already has the 5x114 pattern, so, technically, you could use the STI wheels. Though, I don't know much about the applicable offests

They should have stayed as close to the concept as possible. This steamy pile can stay in the showroom and out of my garage. "Departure from the Impreza" my ass... nice marketing ploy.

Can anyone else not stand the presenter? He spent a minute yapping about the CVT transmission. Sounds like he was reading off a script.
"If you are an automatic person, you should get the CVT. If you like to shift gears yourself, maybe you should get the manual gearbox." |

1. Car looks better in silver or black.
2. Subaru claimed the same 0-60 for the old car, so here is hoping that the new car is as fast. 3. I'm seeing positive comments about the cars turn in, hopefully that means less understeer. Previous generation needed significant neg camber and at least a rear bar to not severely understeer. 4. Hate the wheels and it looks like the designers finished the frontend and they all got fired, then they brought in a new team and didn't let them see the front whle designing the rest of it. Maybe the STI wing will balance out the look? 5. Cool story bro. |

I believe the new 6mt for the WRX will be coming from the 5th Gen Legacy GTs, but made for the FA instead of the EJ. I would say the overall design of the new FA20 is very close to that of the last version of the Legacy GTs, top mount intercooler with a low mount turbo setup.

You got a little excited there at the end. lol. But I can't blame you. I'm sure I'll be the same way as soon as I get into mine.
Great review, thanks for taking the time to do more than just a write up like the other guys. What were your thoughts on the fit and finish quality? Sqeaky dash, door panels, rear deck? How about the HK Stereo? Spend any time checking it out? How does it stack up to others? Sound like your typical "could have been great, but subaru mucked it up" stereo? |

I like how he got distracted by how much he liked to drive the WRX. I have high hopes for the STi.
Cant wait. Good reviews too. |

Fit and finish puts the 2015 into a different class versus the outgoing model. This was a pre-production car, so I can't report on any squeaks or rattles. Something that happens turns up in production may not appear in a pre-pro... though the car I drove was very quiet in the cabin, both on rough roads and at speed. |

Excited to see that the car seems to be a champ in the handling department. If I would have read anywhere beforehand that they aimed for handling on par with Porsche I would have said "uh-huh". Seems that they've really hit the mark though, which is awesome! Is the engine mounted lower in this car then in previous iterations? Just wondering if they stole a few thoughts from BRZ development. Didn't make the auto show this year and didn't see it in person.
Speaking of things mounted lower, the turbo, a nice little chunk of mass is mounted right down at the bottom which is good. Not to mention the benefits of funneling the exhaust gas (more specifically the heat energy) straight into a twinscroll like that must do wonders for response. No boxer rumble......meh, who cares. I'll take a good design and efficiency any day. Besides, the quick little snippet of exhaust noise in the video sounded great! I'm sure uncorked she'll sing real nice. As stated already, styling is totally subjective, me personally, I like it. It looks "grown up" but without being boring. More like a high end luxo sports sedan. A nice set of multispoke wheels would seal the deal just fine. People gripe about "styling" every time Subaru changes it anyway. I'm itching to see what they've done with the STi now. If they've given us a WRX that is this good, it makes my hopes high for the STi. If they aimed for "Porsche" handling with the WRX, how about for the STi? Porshce GT3 handling maybe Can't wait to see what turns up! Glad to see Subaru are still making proper cars. -Anthony |
