Default Isuzu overtakes Lexus for top customer satisfaction

Isuzu overtakes Lexus for top customer satisfaction
Quote:
And it’s not just auto brands as Morgan poll sees Isuzu rated ‘Best of the Best’ in Australia

Isuzu UTE Australia has emerged as the ‘Best of the Best’ in the annual 2020 Roy Morgan Customer Satisfaction Awards, overtaking Lexus and all other brands both in and beyond the auto industry.

The independent research company this week crowned Isuzu as the standout performer for customer satisfaction during the pandemic-struck 2020 – a year in which the all-new Isuzu D-MAX ute was released.

The Japanese ute and SUV specialist outperformed 39 other category winners that included First Choice Liquor, Bunnings and Aldi to receive the ‘Best of the Best’ award, which it also achieved in 2018.

The 2020 award was based on seven top-placed monthly rankings among the auto brands last year, while 2019 winner Lexus took the other five.

Other brands identified as performing “exceptionally well” in 2020 were Toyota, Mercedes-Benz and Suzuki.

An average of 50,000 Australians were interviewed over a 12-month period from January to December 2020 to produce the results, which found 94.92 per cent of respondents were most satisfied with Isuzu.

“This not only speaks volumes about the reliability and durability of Isuzu vehicles but also about the support team that works day in and day out to ensure their drivers are satisfied with their owner experience,” said Roy Morgan chief executive Michele Levine.

Isuzu UTE Australia managing director Hiroyasu Sato said the recognition is an honour for the brand and will “drive our commitment to paying special attention to customer feedback and delivering on promises made”.

“Having just celebrated 200,000 unit sales since our arrival in Australia in 2008, Isuzu UTE Australia is honoured to have received another milestone complementing our continual drive for excellence within the Australian market,” said Sato.

“The Isuzu UTE brand has experienced exceptional growth over the last 13 years and with it is our commitment to customer satisfaction, evident through our comprehensive ‘Service 6-7-7’ care package and promise to providing our owners with complete peace of mind.”

Australian buyers have been flocking to the new Isuzu D-MAX, which rated highly in the recent carsales Best Dual-Cab 4×4 Ute 2021 mega-test and last month racked up 3058 sales – an all-time record for the ute that helped the brand to ninth position in the overall market.

The trend is expected to continue, supply permitting, as the all-new 2021 Isuzu MU-X large SUV draws near.

Most Isuzus on the road around here are commercial truck models. They even have their own F-series.

Let's not even reminisce about Isuzu's because we will certainly date ourselves.

Impulse
Impulse II
Rodeo (this became the original Honda Passport)
Isuzu Trooper
Isuzu Amigo (ohh yeah, remember this bad boy)
Isuzu Vehicross
Isuzu Montero and Montero Sport

I know someone that still has a Montero, it's his go to Snowmobile. The thing is a monster in snow.

Isuzu acquires UD Trucks from the Volvo Group

Isuzu Motors has acquired Japan-based UD Trucks (formerly long known as Nissan Diesel) from the Volvo Group for about $2.2 billion, company said recently.

The transaction is estimated to have a positive impact on the Volvo Group's operating income in the second quarter of close to $230 million and increase the Volvo Group's net cash position by about $2.2 billion, Volvo officials said in a press release.

Under the deal, the two original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) created a 20-year strategic alliance within commercial vehicles, and upon completion of the acquisition, it became operational.

Toyota and Isuzu to take stake in each other to co-develop new vehicles

Toyota Motor Corp. will reconstruct a capital alliance with Isuzu Motors Ltd., with the two firms investing more than ¥40 billion in each other, in a bid to jointly develop advanced vehicles such as small autonomous trucks.

The revived alliance, announced Wednesday, signals the urgent need for carmakers to find partners in developing new, costly technologies, particularly for automotive electrification.

The alliance, also involving truck-maker and Toyota subsidiary Hino Motors Ltd., aims to clear emissions regulations and meet demand from customers who are increasingly aware of global warming, the companies said.

Toyota and Isuzu dissolved their previous capital partnership in 2018. They had aimed to jointly develop technologies for diesel engines.

Under the new agreement, Toyota will hold a 4.6% stake of all issued shares in Isuzu as of the end of September, worth ¥42.8 billion, through a third-party allotment, while Isuzu plans to acquire Toyota shares of the same value through a market purchase.

Toyota, Isuzu and Hino will set up a joint venture named Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corp. in April to co-develop small electric and fuel-cell trucks as well as autonomous driving technologies for such vehicles.

Toyota will have an 80% stake in the joint venture, while Isuzu and Hino plan to each hold a 10% stake.

With the alliance, "we will be able to reach out to around 80% of light truck users (in Japan)," Toyota President Akio Toyoda said in a joint news conference. "It is important we not only compete but also cooperate (with rivals) in the future."

Toyota can offer its electric and fuel-cell technologies to Isuzu, he said.

Isuzu President Masanori Katayama said that the partnership will help create a common platform of electrification and self-driving technologies for commercial vehicles, which account for some 40% of cars in Japan based on travel distance.

Toyota has also established capital partnerships with other domestic automakers such as Mazda Motor Corp., Subaru Corp. and Suzuki Motor Corp.

For its part, Isuzu has agreed to a strategic partnership with Sweden's AB Volvo to develop technologies for autonomous trucks and other next-generation vehicles

GM, Isuzu Announce New $175 Million Engine Parts Plant

A General Motors joint venture will build a new $175 million factory in southwestern Ohio to produce engine parts for two heavy-duty pickup models, the automaker announced last week.

DMAX, which is 60% owned by GM and 40% owned by an Isuzu subsidiary, will establish a second facility in the Dayton suburb of Brookville to supply components to its diesel engine plant in nearby Moraine, Ohio. GM officials attributed the decision to strong demand for its Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups.

The new facility is expected to create more than 100 new jobs.

"The Brookville investment will enable us to machine more engine blocks and heads, and ultimately enable our DMAX engine plant in Moraine to build more 6.6-liter diesel engines for our Flint truck assembly plant," Gerald Johnson, GM executive vice president of global manufacturing, said in a statement.

The company debuted new versions of the Silverado and Sierra after consolidating its heavy-duty pickup operations in Flint, where GM added 40,000 units of production capacity and 1,000 new jobs.

GM said preliminary work at the Brookville site is already underway, and that its precision-machined components will be delivered to the Moraine factory beginning late next year.

Isuzu and Gatik Collaborate to Develop Fully Autonomous MD Trucks
Isuzu North America Corporation and Gatik have formed a strategic collaboration to develop and evaluate fully autonomous medium-duty trucks.

The collaboration will integrate Gatik's autonomous driving technology into several Isuzu N-Series trucks to produce SAE Level 4 delivery vehicles with redundant systems. The first vehicles will be deployed this year thanks to the cooperative efforts of Gatik's and Isuzu's engineering teams.

Rapidly increasing e-commerce sales and a well-documented driver shortage have caused businesses to struggle to meet the expectations of on-demand goods movement. This effort will combine Gatik's autonomous driving software and operational expertise with Isuzu's award-winning truck platform to address these critical industry pain points, ensuring retailers can maintain capacity, lower operating costs, and keep delivery times short.

This collaboration is an industry first in the medium-duty category and will accelerate the commercialization of autonomous delivery fleets while contributing to a safer and more sustainable logistics community in the future.

Woven Alpha, Isuzu and Hino Begin Exploring the Use of Automated Mapping Platform
-Promoting Safer Automated Driving and Advanced Driver Assistance System-
Woven Alpha, Inc. ("Woven Alpha"), a group company of Woven Planet Holdings, Inc., a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation ("Toyota"), Isuzu Motors Limited, ("Isuzu"), and Hino Motors, Ltd. ("Hino") announced today an agreement to proceed with talks to utilize the Automated Mapping Platform ("AMP") developed by Woven Alpha.

AMP is a connected crowdsourced software platform that supports the creation, development and distribution of high definition ("HD") maps - a key enabler for smart and safe automated mobility. AMP provides high-precision data driven maps by utilizing vehicle fleet data and advanced satellite imagery technology. AMP HD map includes several layers of data rich information of road objects such as lanes, road signs, traffic lights, and other objects, as well as that of road curves and topography creating an accurate representation of the road while keeping it updated. The Woven Alpha team plans to develop AMP to become the most globally comprehensive road and lane network HD map platform enabling high-precision localization support to automated driving vehicles.

With the aim of realizing smarter and safer logistics through automated driving and Advanced Driver Assistance System ("ADAS") using HD maps, Isuzu and Hino will examine the potential application of AMP on the domain of small commercial-purpose trucks. The initiative aims to contribute to the dissemination of safer automated driving and ADAS with Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corporation that intends to accelerate CASE responses, which Toyota announced with Isuzu and Hino.
