2022 Toyota Land Cruiser

Behold! 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser Leaks Early

An official reveal could be imminent.

An all-new Toyota Land Cruiser will arrive for the 2022 model year in just about every major market with the exception of North America. Land Cruiser sales in the US have dropped in recent years and 2021 will be its final model year. At least, that's what we've being told. And we certainly hope they do because patent designs for the all-new 300 Series Land Cruiser have just leaked online, courtesy of the Kurdistan Automotive Blog on Instagram.

We definitely like what we're seeing here mainly because the new Land Cruiser doesn't look incredibly different from the outgoing model's rugged and handsome design. It will reportedly be about the same length as its predecessor but the wheelbase has been stretched by about two inches.

The front overhangs appear to be a bit shorter which, combined with the new wheelbase, should improve approach and departure angles for even better off-roading capabilities. In general, the 300 Series Land Cruiser appears to have a cleaner, slightly more streamlined look than that of its predecessor.

The front grille has a bolder look but we can't tell if the split tailgate has been swapped in favor of a more conventional configuration. The side mirrors are now mounted on the doors rather than the A-pillars in order to improve aerodynamics, while the roof-mounted spoiler has been redesigned. Wheel sizes will range from 17-inch steel units to 20-inch alloys.

Unfortunately, interior images are not yet available though sources claim we can expect a significantly upgraded dashboard design, large infotainment screen, and a wide center console.

Under the hood will lie a variety of engine options, such as a new 3.3-liter twin-turbo diesel six-cylinder and an optional 3.5-liter twin-turbo hybrid-gasoline V6. The latter will be paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. A GR Sport variant is rumored to be in the works as well and could potentially come with Toyota's also-new twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8.

The next Lexus LX, which is expected in the US, will likely get the latter engine. Previous rumors pegged an official reveal sometime this spring, perhaps as soon as this month.

That a a clean looking SUV. I've been a long time Land Cruiser fan in the RC world but never wanted one in real life.

Six seconds. That's all we get in a follow-up teaser video released by Toyota to hype up the world premiere of its all-new Land Cruiser. The company's traditional flagship SUV excluding the brief military-based Mega Cruiser will switch to the next generation on Wednesday (June 9) with completely revamped underpinnings.

The LC300 is Toyota's worst kept secret as undisguised prototypes and perhaps even customer vehicles have been spotted in recent weeks. It's going to look a lot like in the (still very much unofficial) renderings below, so while it won't be a major departure from the outgoing model, you can easily tell it's the fresh version of the body-on-frame fullsize SUV.

Don't let the familiar look trick you into believing this will be more of a heavy facelift of the LC200 rather than an all-new model. Transitioning to the TNGA-F platform much like the upcoming 2022 Tundra pickup, the Land Cruiser will feature new V6 gasoline and diesel engines with more power and better fuel efficiency than the V8s they're replacing.

Leaked specs have revealed the truck-based SUV will feature an aluminum roof and a smaller fuel tank to shave off weight. It's also getting a 10-speed automatic transmission and a GR Sport derivative for the first time, complete with front and rear differential locks and Toyota's proprietary Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS).

While the exterior will be more of the same, the cabin is being fully redesigned to accommodate a much more modern dashboard with a 12.3-inch infotainment taking center stage. High-end versions will feature an optional rear-seat entertainment system with 11.6-inch screens and a JBL sound system packing 14 speakers.

Toyota is officially retiring the current Land Cruiser from the US market after 2021, but we won't be too surprised if the LC300 will return one day. Meanwhile, the origins of these succinct teaser videos indicate the company appears to be focusing on the Middle East region, which makes sense given the popularity of large rugged SUVs such as the Land Cruiser. For the same reason, Nissan is selling a high-performance Patrol Nismo exclusively in that part of the world.

This and the Lexus twin get progressively uglier.
