Default CA DMV Historical Plate for 78 Brat

So I've been curious for a while about the Historical license plates and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on getting one for the 78 Brat.

Here's some links to the DMV site.

License Plate Main:
https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/dm...cardsanddecals

Link to Historical Plate Paperwork:
http://apps.dmv.ca.gov/forms/reg/reg17a.pdf

So would there be any pro/con to having a Historical Plate? I know the Brat in my opinion is a historically significant vehicle. But is it worth getting the special plate?

Short answer, no it's not worth it for a 78 Brat. However, if it makes your happy, then go for it. It's your time, money, and effort.

If it were me, I would import a 1989 Skyline GT-R (R32) and get historic plates for it.

What would make it worth it is if going that route would mean I don't have to pay for tags again. Which is how it is in some states.

Who said anything about a Skyline? I would love to get one, except I am worried that it would get taken away by the government for not being in compliance.

But thank you for your input.

While the 89 skyline seems like an attainable dream, California will never let you run even an old on. Motoiq had a great article on the very subject. Move to any other state for a road legal 89

Unless you own President Ronald Reagans' brat I doubt it will be considered historically significant enough to warrant the plate.

You don't need any justification for a vehicle to be plated with a Historical plate. Fill out the paperwork, pay the fee.

If that was the case why aren't there millions of Toyota Camry with dented bumpers rolling around with historic plates.

They are if they're pre-1989. It was always the impression that anything post 1973 (smog era) that you had to have some type of provenance for it to qualify as they don't just give historic plates for being 25+ years old.
