replaced the digitizer scree on my daughter's kindle fire v5 the other day. pretty easy repair. they have the digitizer stuck down quite well considering they have a lot of glass available compared to a phone or something.

She left it outside in the rain overnight. got water all inside it. it drained out alright, but some water stuck between the screen and digitizer. i went to pull the digitizer and that's when i broke it trying to remove it, as it's on their pretty good. also i broke the ribbon off too so then it was really toast. Other than that it was a pretty easy repair. $13 ebay, arrived at my house in about 4 days.

Well, gave in and ordered the One plus 6 because I'm a weak weak person. Phone looks good and hits most of the check boxes for me. I think that they blew it by omitting wireless charging but other than that, it looks promising.

So long Mi6, you did ok ( can't remember the last time I had a phone for so long)

Mi8 is being announced in 1 week, no interest? I still love the heck out of my Mi5 and kind of dread getting a new phone because nothing good is remotely near 5" anymore. Just last year's Pixel bezel-festival.

The Mi 8 is shaping up to be a beast but I am burned on Xiaomi for now. I like to mod my phone and it's a pain in the butt with them. The Mi 6 still has almost zero Dev support and all the roms that are there are broken. Now they increased the bootloader unlock waiting period to 360 hours.

Yeah, it's such a gamble when a phone is released, not knowing how mod-friendly and popular it will be. Fortunately for me, the Mi5 has great support. It's definitely a concern because I buy Xiaomi for the cheap hardware and want to change the software as well. We'll see how it turns out, but I'm inclined to wait for the Pixel 3 and just enjoy the slick software, although I'm sure I'll still miss some ROM features.

i think for me, OnePlus is sitting at the sweet spot at the moment. Its got an amazing dev community, you get about 90% of what you get from other flagships, the price is still bearable etc.. I would love to go for the Pixels but honestly, their prices are not something that i am willing to pay anymore.

If you are willing to buy a phone with no support and also willing to give up some features like having the best camera, its hard to beat OnePlus.

Yeah, but they only make one phone and it has a 6.28" screen. Nah, brah. Maybe if they did another OPX but I thought my OPO was too big, this is ridiculous.

$529 is an ok price. I'm salty the Pixel 2 hasn't dropped a dollar from $649 since its release in October. The upper model OP6s are $579 and $629, so that's up there. I don't think I'll get another Xiaomi. As much as I like to mod/flash/tinker, I have less time for that than I used to. The Pixel has that Apple-like 'buy it and it's good to go as-is'. The software will always be the latest/smoothest and the camera is the best. Those 2 factors are basically the biggest when buying a phone these days.

Yeah since you like smaller devices you really don't have too many options. I also prefer smaller devices but I can manage with the size of the OP. As for the Pixel, yeah the Pixel 2 is a solid choice and the 3 is shaping up to be amazing as well.

Personally, I don't think I will run anyone else again except Samdung and Google. Pixel 3 will probably have a dumb notch.

No more LG. No more HTC. And probably no more Chinese brands.

The announced pricing of the OP6 is starting to hit the point where I'm starting to be a little gunshy about buying one right away, but otherwise specs and features it's still my top Android phone candidate. I've become a real fan of the hardware notification slider that began with the OP3.

My OP3T is less than a year old, runs fast and I am fine still running Nougat since I don't know what I'm missing with O. Will probably stretch the use of this phone out to the end of this calender year and then look into an OP6, possibly used from swappa. If not wait til start of next year, buy one new and write off as a business expense.

They really do need to be careful with that price creep. My op6 was 579 which is getting really close to where I will just say f it and spend a bit more for a Pixel or a Galaxy. Also, with the possibility of Xiaomi coming to the state, they might have a real tough competition on their hands

In the past few weeks, Xiaomi has blitzed Europe in an expansion not seen since the Nazis. I believe they will be a powerhouse in the west in the early 2020s, if not earlier. We'll see how long the US's "If the rest of the world is doing A, we're gonna do B!" gameplan holds out and if they can break through the corrupt carrier-controlled market and undercut that by selling unlocked devices at a massive discount.

still chugging along on my third battery 6p. working great right . really not sure what i'll get next. I've come to like the plain-ness of the nexus , and maybe now pixel phones, but damn that pixel costs a pretty penny....I don't hate the notch from what i've seen. I'd consider another huawei phone if it came with plain android.

I guess time will tell...

Sounds like the OP6 might fit your needs. I think that Oxygen OS is better than Vanilla Android to be honest and if you don't mind the notch, it's a solid option

I suppose I missed the memo on Google Now. After an update this week, you cannot swipe your cards away now?

Google sent me a replacement Pixel 2 XL since my USB C port was loose, and only worked when plugged in one way.

The replacement device has blown speakers.

So... Ever since I lost my photos and rooted my phone it seems to be much slower. It even freezes for a few seconds at points. I tried to unroot using kingo but it fails. Any thoughts on what I can do to fix this? Do a backup and factory reset?

I really don't want to flash a new rom or whatever. I don't have the time to figure out which is best/best for me.

Nope, it's kind of been that way for a while, but Google rolls stuff out in odd ways. It's garbage. Google Now has become a clickbait feed instead of items relevant to your day and life. People are even seeing ads show up in the feed now, which should be no surprise since they're just pushing content on you rather than providing a useful service at this point.

Fuuuu, y u do this Google? Both of the last Nexus phones were atrocities, the Pixel XL had all those screen issues at launch and now you experience this? On a $850 device? They can **** right off with that ****. I really have my reservations about buying a Pixel because of this crap. For a $400 Chinese flagship, it could be forgivable (but my Mi5 has been 100% flawless in terms of hardware), not for an overpriced flagship.

Rooting should not slow your phone down, so that's odd. I don't know what kingo is, but I don't think that's the normal way to unroot... Yes, try a backup/factory reset first since it's easy enough.

While not without it's quirks, my pixel has been solid. Had to RMA once but aside from that no other significant issues. Each one lasted longer than my Galaxy phones before something started crapping out. Debated preordering the 3 when available but Google seems to give away free **** with the phone a month or two after launch.. so I'll likely wait.

I've never had to warranty or RMA a single phone. Obviously, if your phone ****s the bed prematurely, it's better to have the ability to than not. But an $850 phone should not have any of these failures. At that price, the only compromise you should be making is the price. I really hope Google has its **** together for the Pixel 3 after aquiring that HTC team.

Had turned off auto updates for the Google Play store because it would always try to update at work on the mediocre WiFi, but I would find I was out of date on many apps often.

Used Tasker to set it to update only between X:XX - X:XX while on WiFi. This is why I like Android, even though the Play Store should have that built in.
