trying to swap an 05 sti engine into my 02 wrx
hi guys i need some help with this swap i am about to buy an 05 sti engine and swap it in my 02 wrx so the question is ...can i still keep my 5speed tranny, clutch, motor mounts, starter ,harnesses ,ecu,850cc injector ect and everything else except for my 2.0 engine i mean the 05 sti engine is a 2.5 liter and my 02 is a 2.0 right ? the only reason why i wanna keep this tranny is because 2 years ago i replaced my tranny`s internals and the best option i had was the jdm sti 5 speed version or V.7 STI RA Gearset Cryogenic Hardend 1st through 4th gear in other not to break from engine power so thats the one my car has at this moment just one more thing and last could i still keep my SR55 Dual Ball Bearing Turbo Charger for this 05 sti engine ...alright guys this is it any answer or help will be much appreciated you all have a good day and thanks

Drink in hand now, so let's reword this...
First off I'd like to mention that an engine swap, particularly in a Subaru is a huge task. Many, even most of the parts are interchangeable to a certain degree, but there are a lot of "if's" and "unless"s involved. Your transmission will be fine, as will your clutch. Motor mounts should be upgraded regardless. Injectors should be fine if you're using the wrx manifold and TGVs. Harness.... that's a big issue. Are we talking full ECU replacement here? If that's the case, then you need to swap the wiring harness too. There are several differences with the STi ECU from the WRX ecu including the use of dual crankshaft position sensors and variable timing. There are tons of factors that play into a swap like this, and many of those factors can end up screwing you over if not planned for in advance. If you really have your heart set on an STi swap, then by all means go for it, but please realize that bolting the engine in place is about 5% of the total work involved in this sort of project, and the cost of the engine represents perhaps half of the total dollar amount you will most likely put into it. Yes the Sti is a 2.5 and you are 2.0. You can keep and re-use your turbo. You will need the electronics from the Sti I believe if you are doing a full swap. If you are just doing a hybrid swap you may be ok with yours (just STI block swap). You should be able to use your 5-speed. If your are using your TGV's from the wrx motor you can re-use your injectors, otherwise no, all 05 Sti's are sidefeed. Same goes with your intake manifold, the Sti is drive by wire where your wrx is cable. Definatly do some research to make sure for yourself on all your questions, don't rely on everyone here to get you the best or correct answer.

If you want it done quick and remain stock, find a junk yard motor and install it. If you don't mind it taking awhile and costing, do the STI. If you go STI, you'll have to get a tune before you're done so, you have to factor that in too. Your current injectors might be too small too. You could probably use the STI injectors with your manifold (swapping the TGV housings) but, again then it's tune time.
The easiest thing is to fix or replace your existing engine. |
