Question Best turbo & tuning books

Hey guys,

I am a new Subaru WRX and turbo newbie that has been quietly searching and learning tons on this site...thanks! What I can't find is a good turbo/tuning book for my 2015 WRX. Are there any good books you guys can recommend for a beginner to intermediate turbo owner?

Thanks!

Paul

Tuning is not something you want to jump into on your daily driver. Start with an accessport or something like that. You can also make your way over to the Tuning and ECU sub-forum, where there's loads of information about open source tunes.

"Build to Win"
"Tune to Win"
"Maximum Boost"

Go buy those and don't spend another dime until you've finished reading them.

Ive read a few. start here because this is a systemic approach with a lot of information that other books dont have.
https://www.amazon.com/Performance-F...rds=efi+tuning
most tuning books sort of tell you the same thing. you could try some greg banish or jeff hartman afterwards but its all about the same information.

If youre into theory then dont bother with corky bell books.

Unabomber, yeah, I already checked-out that thread...amazing and thanks!

Car_freak85 & 86Dreams, thanks for the recs! I already bought the tune-to-win books. The fuel tuning book looks great.

My son and I met M@ at a car meet some years ago. He was quite open about how he started, with a Hondata and tuning Hondas. Unlike Subarus, if you screw up on a Honda, they don't immediately blow up, so it's a good learning platform.

you can learn most of the people here don't tune their own car so taking advise or asking for it here is not really the best. if you want to learn, there are 2 ways, the first is trial by mistakes or the school of hard knocks. this works but don't be surprised if you blow your engine. the second is there are classes out that will help you learn, but ultimately you are going to have to back to the first. Shawn Church has a class called Fastuun that will give you the basics. you can learn but at first it will be a slow process. My advise is to get a tune, and have a second map that you can play with. just make small changes to you figure out how things work

As far as the best turbo, best is a objective term there is no best for everyone. some what fast spool and others want ultimate power. There really is no turbo that will give you both so you have to figure out what you want.

turbo choices are entirely subjective, do you want to build a torque monster with lots of low end or a highway missile?

I'm not looking for a best turbo at this time. I come from NA cars, so Turbo's are new to me. I simply want to learn fundamentals about turbo'd vehicles. Eventually I'll look for a bigger turbo...;-)

"Best" is as Zcypot described... Subjective.

You're already on the best resource for learning this stuff... The Internet... But you have to be able to pick out the bull****.

Exactly why I'm looking at books! First get the basics, then I'll know what to filter out on the internet.

To be honest, I used to hate books about cars. I just didn't see the point in them. Researched holocaust instead, found https://supremestudy.com/essay-examples/holocaust/ for this. But when they bought me a car, everything in my life turned upside down. Now I just have some kind of mania for all this.
Thanks!

Paul
Until recently, I could not stand cars, how wrong I was. I'm also looking for books about Subaru and Audi now.
