Default 2015 STI Steering Rack 13.1!! Anybody Planning to swap?

Just wondering if it will fit older Subarus, the 19 ratio on the Forester is just ridiculous, feels I am driving an 18-wheeler. 13.1 = delicious.

That was actually the first thing that came to mind when they released specs for the '15. I'm sure it won't be a direct fit, but I'd imagine it should be possible with enough fabrication. It's tough to say until somebody gets their hands on one and tries it though. I'd love to put one in my '04 WRX...that may end up being my winter project next year

Fabrication is letigiously dangerous, Q-Rack had a lot of issues, hopefully is a direct fit.

Eh, unless you're selling them or telling people how to install them (or selling the car,) why be worried about litigation?

I'm not particularly afraid of fabbing brackets, even if it requires cutting up and welding a crossmember. It would be nice to have a quick rack that you can pick up at any dealership in the states for a "reasonable" price. Q-racks recent issues are why I'm even considering going to the effort.

Having an STi, I'm more concerned how compatible it is with the older steering angle sensor. The Q- rack was not.

They do. That's what the clock spring is. Change the road wheel angle to the steering wheel angle ratio and it messes up the DCCD.

It's some of the other sensors in the center consol that came later.

I'm pretty sure the 07 STI was the first to get the steering angle sensor. The clock spring is NOT a steering angle sensor.

All I know is the DCCD doesn't like the Q-rack. The firstto try it gave up. This a ~decade old memory test.

So, in theory, if it did fit, would we not also have to reprogram the traction control etc to accept the new quicker steering angle?

Is this reprogramming even available?

Nope. Only current solution is turn off VDC or disable it and ABS. There is likely not enough economic gain in anyone reverse engineering the VDC unit so not likely to ever change. Perhaps someone will figure out how to intercept the steering angle sensor and change the signal, but it speaks directly to the CAN BUS so not sure how feasible that is either.

The last option sounds like the simplest solution.

That or starting with a WRX so you don't have to worry about DCCD

Even then modifying the SAS may not be easy at all. Nobody has tried it yet.

DCCD is not the problem here, it is relatively minor to have the level of center diff lock not be quite right due to incorrect steering angle input.

The VDC on the other hand (which all WRX/STI since 08 have) goes a bit nuts when the wheels are turned further than it expects! If you don't care about turning VDC off every time you drive no big deal.

I have a q-rack and there are no issues with the DCCD as there is no steering angle sensor for the 04's and I thought it wasn't until 08 but I haven't really looked into it.
