![]() Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has ever put an oil filter from a 3.6L outback on the 2.5L WRX engine? The reason I ask is because it is a larger filter that has the same threads, and same seal diameter, but it is a bit larger for more filtering area/capacity. I also own a Toyota Supra and in the Supra community it is very common to install the larger Lexus V8 oil filter on the Supra for the extra filtering capacity. Has anyone ever tried this? Was it successful?

![]() Not too sure about the outback filter but most people recommend oem size. I personally have been running a VQ40 pathfinder size oil filter on my sti since my last oil change.
Same threads but about an inch taller than the oem sti filter. So far so good, no complaints. The general consensus seems to be stick to oem though. |

![]() Thanks for your feedback. Anybody else? Anybody actually try this out? For my Supra, it is a no brainer since I know it has been done for a long time by many people, but for the WRX I haven't come across this as something people have done. I don't really want to be the guinea pig if someone else has done it before. Seems like more filtering area and capacity is a big plus since the stock filter is so tiny. I would estimate that the 3.6L Subaru Outback filter has at least an additional 30%.

![]() Someone in my local group was recommending using rx8 filters. That might be something to look into

![]() Quote:
Tokyo roki originally manufactured the black oem Subaru sti filters. The rx8 filters are the same just a bit taller. Same bypass pressure rating for sti's and well built. Great option for a slightly larger filter. |

![]() I haven't used them but if they are longer and oem someone likely has. Also here to see if anyone uses them regularly. More filter area is not a bad thing.

![]() You can but you’ll be close to touching the exhaust/edges.
