Talking EJ205 VF39 1050X - 250WHP 225TQ on Mainline Dyno

First post woot woot.

Car: 2002 WRX EJ205 + VF39 + 1050X
Dyno: Mainline chassis
Location: Infront Automotive, Auburn WA
Tuner: John
Ambient Temp: 70
Weather: Cloudy
Elevation: 80'
Peak HP (SAE corrected): 250WHP at 6400 RPM
Peak TQ: 226WTQ at 4600 RPM
Target boost: 20 PSI
Gear used for tuning: 4th
Fuel: 92 octane
Engine management: COBB Accessport V3

Full mod list is at the bottom.

Finally got my car all taken care of by the guys at Infront Automotive after starting with the Stage 2+ COBB OTS tune in my garage a few months back. 60k miles on engine and close to that on transmission and around 2k miles ago, before I bought the car and threw tons of money at it, the engine was removed, heads got hot tanked and put back together in their stock form unfortunately, of course with new head gaskets and timing belt kit.

All in all, the car was fun on the Stage 2+ tune, but now the car is pretty bonkers. The 4.44 JDM gearbox I have in the car really helps the turbo spool up a lot faster. Jan at infront said it was spinning the wheels a little bit at the top end, hence the slight dip in one of the runs . Overall the car is very pleasant to drive with great turbo response for the size and wonderful spooly noises. I know this is a pretty standard setup but it cant hurt to have another testament to the viability and drivability of the VF39 EJ205 swap.

The car made 250 WHP and 226 WTQ on a Mainline chassis dyno on 20PSI with some trusty ole' Shell V-Power NiTRO+ 92 octane. Jan said the mainline measures around 50 less than a Mustang and I was aiming for 240WHP so 250 is more than fine. John said there was even a little more in it if the fuel was a little better. I looked at the injector duty cycle and its getting well above 50% so I am very glad I went with the 1050s vs STI injectors like I was recommended. I also just picked up a case of Lucas octane booster just for safety's sake, the car is pulling some timing at WOT due to some knock. Hopefully my O2 sensors and plugs don't get all orange and gross from the booster, wish me luck.

The car is the by far most fun I've ever had on 4 wheels.

That's a strong setup on the Mainline at Infront. I just got a retune there a couple of days ago. What a great shop.

What I do with the Lucas is I will fill halfway, dump in the octane booster and then fill to the top. I had had a slight issue, but I deduced it was from getting a strong initial dose if I poured it in first. No issues since then.

Take care of that fueling now, looks like you have the injectors and rails to go flex fuel easily with a better pump.

My Infront build thread is just next to yours.

Thanks for that tip!

I just dumped it in after filling up but I'll try it your way next time. Have you had any trouble with O2 sensors or sparkplugs having issues with that orange buildup after using this product?

And yeah I am honestly probably going to pull the motor apart and build it sooner than I would have liked because I just found some metal shavings and a cm long metal shard in the oil pan so a Blackstone test shall reveal if the motor is good health.

Likely going 2.1 stroker, flexfuel, 1.5XTR, Killer B EWG headers, etc. probably gonna swap to 1300 injectors as well if I end up having to build it but the test will tell all.
