Did my 22.5k service this weekend (oil, filter, new fumoto drain plug and tire rotation). Now I am wondering. I have not dealt with any dealerships since I've owned the car (15k miles). I went over to Moore Cadillac/Subaru to buy 2 exhaust gaskets the other week and noticed they charge 500$ for 30k service. Are there any other dealers between Richmond/Fredericksburg/Charlottesville that do it for cheaper?

500 bucks for an oil change and tire rotation? should only be like 150 at the dealer

a 30k service is only a detailed inspection, oil change, tire rotation, and top off fluids. DIY job

From Subarus site.

Quote:
Recommended Maintenance
30,000 miles
Recommended Inspection fuel systems, lines and connections
Inspect drive belt(s) [except camshaft]
Inspect camshaft drive belt
Replace engine oil
Replace engine oil filter
Perform replace engine coolant and inspect cooling system, hoses and connections
Replace air cleaner element
Inspect transmission/differential (front & rear) lubricants (gear oil)
Inspect automatic transmission fluid
Replace brake fluid
Inspect disc brake pads and discs, front and rear axle boots and axle shaft joint portions
Inspect brake linings and drums
Perform inspect brake lines and check operation of parking and service brake system
Inspect clutch operation
Inspect steering and suspension
Perform rotate and inspect tires
If it's only coolant and brake fluid replacement on top of the basic oil changes I have no issue doing it, however being that they have so many things listed for inspection how can I prove I checked these things if I did it myself if I had a warranty claim?

coolant replace, change oil/filter, inspect brake fluid. do this yourself. save recepits (that are date stamped) for possible warranty claims. i also log each and every thing done to my car in a small book, additional proof.

Jenovah, riippen griffen, Big16gwrx and I booked a 3 brm condo for rally wv. 50 cars, 150 stage miles, tarmac hillclimb. The drive on Rt 250 out of Shenandoah valley and into WV is epic.

When I worked for Pence Subaru for those that did their own service(our 30k was much cheaper than $500 for a 09+ WRX/STI) I would tell those to save their box tops for the oil filter. PHOTOCOPY the parts receipts and put on the date and mileage. That worked for SOA if their was ever a need for maintenance receipts. I do not know what they charge for a 30k for your specific vehicle.

I work for a Toyota dealer now but if I recall, your super blue coolant which gets changed at 137500 miles and not needed at 30k so basically it is an oil and filter change, tire rotation, brake fluid flush, air filter, inspect and adjust parking brake and inspect/check and bring other fluids to appropriate levels. A few other things that may need to be changed, cabin filter and possibly balancing the tires.

I just checked SOR's site and damn what a ****in ripoff They are charging $575 for pre 2010 turbo vehicles for an oil change, tire rotation and air filter and charging the customer an ADDITIONAL $100 to flush brake fluid.

From what I've noticed it's standard charge from dealers (any brand, excluding the Germans, they charge more) for service when no timing belt change is called for. $500 seems to be the standard rip-off amount, makes me wonder because it's always 500 flat. And Mazda even had the nerve to put on the flyer they gave me, "A $695 value!"

My guess is they assume the highest amount they believe the customer will pay while feeling they got something for their money, while also feeling it was a needed service. I never did, I never do, so I never have.....

Perhaps I would feel differently if it was included in the purchase of the car, as it honestly should be. LOL, "priorities for life," right?

I ordered my oil (Subaru SAE 5w-30 Subaru Synthetic Motor Oil SOA868V9285) and 6pack filters (O.E.M Subaru Oil Filters - part # 15208AA12A) from amazon.

I entered the order/parts number into my maintenance history @ Subaru.com and I can print them whenever I need so I'd assume that would be equivalent to saving my receipts.

Thanks for the replies.

That is a very broad assumption and not always the case.

Not an assumption, just, as I said, what I have noticed. I have dealt with a small few dealers yes, but across several brands. In every instance except Volkswagen, it was $500 flat excluding timing belt. Bad luck I guess, lol.

Please care to explain and point out where everyone is charging $500 for every service. I have worked at 2 Toyota dealers, A Subaru dealer and Acura dealer here over the past 10 years and I have not seen this. I have seen some services run higher and most of them lower than $500 depending on the year and model of the vehicle and what services are being done at that mileage. My current work place our most expensive service runs $399 which is a V8 timing belt. Our 30/60/90/120k service run under $250.
