Default Cost for WRX front ring & pinion

Hey guys,

Who here know what the cost is for a new front WRX ring and pinion? I am going to be putting in a LSD in the front and want to replace the R&P so I don't have to crack the tranny open again for a long time. Also replacing ALL bearings. Already have new synchro cones and hubs and RA gears.

Thanks,
Kevin

I just had mine replaced along with my center diff, bearings, and syncros. Seems like I remember them being $300ish but PM SubieGal, she can get you pricing.

Sorry, I am only talking about the cost for the part. I can't find it on-line anywhere?

I know I can get it from my dealer, but want to have another option if they are WAY high.

Thanks Acostafan! I will hit her up.

I sent her a PM. $300 doesn't sound too bad, hopefully that is all it cost.

I have seen the 4.44 R&P sets go for $800-$900 and thought the front was $500 of that.

Ok besides the parts...how hard is it to change the ring and pinion on the R160 diff?

Have you ever setup a R&P?

It is about as simple as could be as long as you have done them on any car before.

You could also try Liberty Subaru... I forget their phone number, but their parts prices are pretty good.

The ring gear is easy to swap, just a few bolts that hold it to the differential. As for the pinion gear, that's a one piece part combined with the input shaft. So all the gears and bearings and such need to be pressed off the old shaft onto the new one, to replace the pinion. I had a shop do mine, it's a fairly involved pressing operation since there are a number of sleeve bearings and such that need to be in just the right place.

Actually, changing the front ring and pinion takes about 5minutes! That is, after you've taken the tranny out and completely split the cases.
But you say you want to replace the bearing so that's going to take a bit longer. I simply bought a used tranny with a broken 2nd gear for $250 and used whatever parts I needed. Plus, I still have some other gears and the like if ever I need them.

I was talking about the rear R&P. The front is much harder to do.
