Default STi guys - Poor gas mileage?

Just wondering what other STi owners are getting for gas mileage.

I have yet to see over 400 kms on a tank of gas (91 shell), and thats all hwy.

Over the weekend I saw 18L/100kms all city driving, is this average?

I'm getting ~375km in the City, and best on Hwy is ~500km. I'm usually running either Husky 92/94, or Shell 91.

400km for highway is low, but I think you'll find that 6th gear cruise around 120kph should net you the 500km amounts.

Welcome to boost induced thirst.

Alberta Hwys ==> Flat & Straight.

As long as you're not exceeding that 25% TPS amount before you go into open loop, decent gas mileage can be had. Still completely brutal in comparison to my old GC, but hey, I've got 300-ponies now.

Sounds normal. I have a heavy foot and my numbers are here:

http://www.istargazer.ca/sti/sti_fuel.htm

But I traded in a Sequoia for the STI so the STI is pretty fuel effecient .

Okay thanks for the input guys.

I'm not complaining, don't get me wrong, just wanted to make sure it was average. I guess 300hp does get thirsty.

Okay, another question...to those that have gone Cobb Stage 1, what happened with mileage?

You don't actually run your tank to 0 do you? or is the STi tank bigger?

I would guess you put in 50L per fill right.
For comparasson. 06 WRX 50L gets me about 450kms in the city. Stock.

Wow, the best I got was 460km..from full (~$55-$60) to the light (as it just turns on).

Mind you I'm sitting a bit lighter than you GD boys =D but I granny shift at 2k-2.5k RPM.

Running in boost (shifting at 3k+) I get 375-400km/tank

Just an aside. The Legacy GT has the same longblock as the STi with a slightly smaller turbo and the car weighs more. I get almost 600 km to a fill on the highway (although the fuel tank is almost 10% bigger). And I run an automatic.

Just wondering why the two are so different?

Oh, it just came to me. The wing must generate so much downforce that aero drag is massively increased!

I was getting 21 mpg on Cobb Stg V1 and now I'm getting closer to 23mpg on Cobbs Stg 2 V1.10. The gas light has to be on for quite a while before it'll take more than 50L and I think the most it has ever taken was 54L.

If you're worried about gas mileage then the STi isn't the right car for you.

Moving from a 2.0L WRX to a 2.5L STi I noticed the same (inverse) ratio change in gas mileage from 2.0:2.5. So if I got 600km before, I'd get 480km now on the same amount of gas... give or take.

My budies Leg GT gets better gas mileage than my STi, but you can see why when you watch his fuel computer. It actually seems to have a map tuned for highway gas mileage.

I just made a trip to Dawson Creek this weekend and I filled up in Grand Prairie on the way back and I was able to get to the Anthony Henday and Whitemud before my light came on and that was roughly 460km's. I was doing 120-130 the whole way so I was on the boost a bit.

Normally in the city I can do about 370-380 before the light comes on. This is with a little spirited driving

This is an 06 STi with Cobb Stage 1 and Husky 92

why are you running husky 92? You may as well run Shell 91 and get better mileage.

In the winter, I get about 300km on husky 94. In summer about 350km. That is driving about 6 km in bumper to bumper traffic to and from work most days. On the highway, I have squeezed out 600km in one tank although it is usually 500km. Stay out of the boost and the car isn't bad on gas.

I picked up a couple mpg when I went stage 2 in my LGT (PDX maps). I easily break 600km on a tank (bigger tank as fragment mentioned).

gas mileage isn't a problem I was just giving some in put to the original question. Personally for the fun and pure satifaction of driving an STi, the gas is worth every penny

I quoted you to say that I basically get the same mileage at your.

The other part of my post was about the original thread post.

Yep. Lately I have been trying to see actually how far I could get after the light comes on. The record so far is 82km and I put in 56L.

So If you dare you could probably get 115km after the light comes on.
