Mexico even gets it and the USDM does not. WTF!

If true, they are putting more effort into it than I was willing to give them credit for. But these are just rumors and Toyota will likely say we tried to get to 300ps. We had a failure with the new pistons we designed and had to drop the power, as we didn't have enough time to fix it.

If it comes in at 296hp and has diffs I'm interested; still not keen on a Turbo3 in a car over 3,000lbs, but I'll see how the chips fall.

Everything is in flux for me vehicle-wise now though, who knows what I'll end up in; dependent on what the wife wants as well...

It's weird how many people I know personally, friends and family, and here on this forum, and including myself, who are all in a holding pattern to see what next generation of vehicles are coming out in the next year or two. Whether sporty or utility (or a mix of both), there are people on practically every spectrum that know we're on the cusp of getting something worth waiting for. It's both exciting and annoying, but mostly exciting.

I would also prefer a more basic I4 over any sort of strung out 3-cyl. I guess my hopes align with a car that would cost a lot closer to $30k than $40k. An AWD 300hp I3 turbo Corolla hatch sounds likely to come in much closer to $40k.

I hope the chip shortage doesn't end up screwing the enthusiasts. Seems our goofy niche vehicles are most likely to get pinched. Getting anything resembling what we would call a "deal" in normal times is probably a pipe dream for now.

A minimally evolved new WRX, no attractive wagon or hatch to speak of and a ridiculous market will all make sticking to my original plan of keeping the dubya til 10 years/wheels fall off pretty easy. After 7 years (7!?!) it's still basically like new

Mexico getting it is not a surprise as they actually have a WRC Rally held there. We can barely get F1 in the states, much less actual WRC event.

Until the feds decide to go all GT-R on you. There are only 300 in Mexico. Good luck getting one and then actually driving it on the street without someone noticing.

This year they didn't go to Mexico. The official reason was Covid, but last year Guanajuato had the highest rate of homicide in the country, and the cartel problem likely isn't fixing itself.

I used to think we would never have a WRC round, but then I saw Petter and Oliver Solberg in the woods of Missouri... and Dirtfish sponsoring WRC drivers, and poaching long time rally reporters David Evans and Colin Clark. I'm hopeful that we might have a round in a few years.

The rule, as I understand, is that the vehicle canít be in the US for a continuous year. DOT canít do anything about it if it has Mexico tags, valid Mexico registration, and hasnít stayed in the US for a continuous year. I saw a dude with a camper style Defender with Luxembourg tags at Yellowstone one year. He said it was super easy to bring it in the states as long as it wasnít staying here permanently.

Let's see. I was a firm F U at the loss of the GR4 here, but let's see on this deal We have to remember about these collaborative bs rumors as well. Could Booby take this same car, 2.4L DIT it, call it the STi hatch and charge more $? Either way I'm so in a holding pattern.

We have this GRMN Corolla
Waiting on WRX And STI reveals
Waiting on Golf R USDM mk8 reviews
Waiting on RWD platforms such as the 86 and Z

Whole lotta lotta coming from the land of the rising sun finally.

I can only be hopeful that Toyo is really going to light the fire for the USDM because they f'd us. let's see. i like how the corolla hatch looks just not the weight compared to the GR4 with the same power/drivetrain. But I'll be optimistic here. Like the article says thousands and thousands cheaper than Golf R and I like the drivetrain on the GR4/GRMN a whole lot better with real diffs front and rear, and most importantly the 70% to rear drive mode on the Toyo product. Golf R is max 50% to the rears, and while not a deal breaker, this Corolla delivers at a much lower price point my eyes pivot from the Golf R. Interesting times for hatch fans but I don't want to start jerking my dik just yet. Been let down too many times. And there is the weight to consider! At 300HP, with that GR4 drivetrain, and the weight under some kind of control (aluminum bonnet/doors, etc) put me down.

Yeah maybe this time itíll be different.

Itís gonna be a 3300 lb Corolla hatch with 270hp GR4 hardware minus the diffs.

Expecting more than that is fantasy.

I agree with you on the 270hp engine, but why do you think they won't offer us the diffs?
