Because Mexico probably has really lax crash and emissions standards.

Who cares? We actually like hatchbacks in Canada and have legit uses for AWD.

Yeah you only “need” AWD in Canada. Nobody else in North America has any “real” use for it.

I think some northern states have a use for it as well as Colorado. Unlike the rest of North America there's not an area of Canada that doesn't get snow.

We got snow this year. And our usual flooding rains. The last flooding rain really f’d my property up. It’s crazy to engineer for 102 degree summers, 0 degree in the winter, flood rain, drought, f me!

Absolutely, here in CO in the Spring, you can go from freezing temps with heavy snow to Sunny and 65F in a 1.5 hour drive.

Still wish we got it here in the states, but it is what it is.

It would be sitting in my garage right now. With a spare set of winter wheels and tires. And I’d be geeking out on the mods, reading my balls off. Forbidden fruit guv’nah.

But what outcome and who cares about the outcome? According to their list of times, the STI lost to a full size bigger Kia Stinger. So buy the Kia Stinger over an STI because iTz fAsT4R around a tiny circuit? Stupid logic.

That's what the STI is to the Yaris. A full size bigger vehicle. The point is the Yaris is that even without the diffs it's just as capable at having fun around a circuit and on the street as an STI. Add the diffs and it's even more capable. But the STI is still a capable fun car to toss around and live with day to day. Both can be true.

I just don't need the extra doors and weight and size and trunks and on and on and on that makes the STI what it is. Nobody has said the Yaris is better than an STI. It's different and packaged the way I want...just nothing like it on the market which makes it really cool. Plus it was truly limited model as where the STI has been on the market every year since before I created this account. The next STI is even bigger and still a sedan and I'm bummed about that.

In summary, choice. I have always screamed choice on here. The arguments always boil down to what's better or what's bottom line financially justifiable for a company to offer something, and I don't care about any of that.

Kinda strange to test a no-diff'd GR Yaris to an STI. I kinda want to see a WRX vs. GR Yaris no-diff'd spec and STI vs GR Yaris diff spec comparisons. But maybe I don't want to see it because we don't get the GR Yaris anyways.

There are some upcoming work opportunities to live and work in Japan for a few years. I told my wife if that all happens, we are getting a GR Yaris. My daughter would be around 12 at that point. She’s super skinny; she’d fit in the back, right?

As long as she is under 5'-6" she should be fine.

In the US? No way. But in Japan where I’d travel mostly by public transportation anyway, why not?

This would be my perfect only car. Not too big for just driving myself around, but not so small that my wife and daughter can't fit in a pinch.

And the insurance comparison.....

I could insure this for $650 a year (year 1, year 2 $600, then $550, then it flat lines there). STI is $2000 a year. 2/3 doors = collectible and/or "weekend" car to the carriers I deal with. This is why they'll insure the coupe, or 3d hatch for a fraction of the cost of a sedan.

And let's see like for like. They just did a WRX vs STI comparison. Let's see the STI vs STI comparison Holmes!
