Default '98 '99 vs '00 '01

I own, drive, and race a 1993 1.8L GC8. I recently raced a 2000 GC8 RS and noticed that it doesn't turn as well as my car. After expressing this to its owner, he said that the '98 & '99 have a better turn radius than the '00 & '01. Is there truth to this?

no truth to that.
i could simply out corner most any comparable car in my 2001 RS

it's all driver skill and car setup

From the factory the RS' are very similar

the Steering racks have identical part numbers from 1/1997 to 12/2001

Tires and alignment can make a world of difference.

Too many factors that go into how a car behaves, suspension setup, swaybars, tires, wheels, tire pressure, alignment and such. There is no truth to the turn radius being different.

Well my freind just got a 01 RS. so we decided to see how well it faired against my slightly modified (intake and Cat back) 98 L wagon. Well in first gear we were pretty much the same but once we hit 2nd it was over and i pulled away Amazing how that happened.

As far as I know Subaru did not make a 4-door in those model years. Subaru did, however, make them in 00-01.

01 2.5RS automatic has front LSD also. I think the manuals do also but not sure. I am positive my auto does though.

There have only been 2 Subarus with front LSDs that I know of.. both are GD WRX STi models.

So by 'we', I mean anyone reading this forum.

my 01 Impreza 2.5RS 4EAT has a FWD mode. There is a space in the fuse box under the hood for a 10 or 15 amp fuse that says FWD. When U put the fuse in that spot, the FWD indicator lights up on the dash display. I did this and did a 3 foot long burnout in my driveway. I had 2 identical 3 foot long tire marks on my driveway. That means that I have a LSD in the front. This may only be w/ automatic tranny's, I am not sure. But I know for a fact that mine has LSD in the front, otherwize only 1 wheel would have spun, or the tire marks would have been unequal. I am pretty sure that only the 4EAT has the FWD option.

It means you got a good even launch. Not too suprising considering the symmetrical drivetrain and equal length axle shafts. You do not have a front LSD unless you installed one yourself.

I know this, because Subaru doesn't sell -and hasn't ever sold- a front LSD in any car except the STi.
