2020 Mercedes CLA Edition 1 Teased Ahead Of Tomorrow's Reveal
It's our best look so far at the swoopy sedan.

We are only one day away from the world debut of the second-generation CLA, so it seems just about right this latest (and possibly final) teaser is quite revealing. Mercedes took to Facebook to share a video of the stylish sedan, while the company’s design boss Gorden Wagener shared an image on his personal Instagram account with the 2020 CLA hiding under covers.

Even though Mercedes now has the A-Class Sedan serving as the automaker’s entry-level sedan, the CLA is not going anywhere as the Germans believes there’s room in the lineup for the two models to peacefully co-exist. It’s a similar story with their rivals at BMW as they’re doing the same with the 1-Series Sedan and 2 Series Gran Coupe.

Getting back to the teaser at hand, it shows not just an ordinary 2020 CLA, but the generously equipped Edition 1 you’ll be able to buy during the model’s first year on the market. Aside from packing a lot of kit, the special version appears to have an assortment of orange accents inside and out to spice things up furthermore.

Rather than introducing the car at the forthcoming Detroit Auto Show, Mercedes has decided to skip NAIAS this year and unveil the new CLA in Las Vegas during the Consumer Electronics Show. That’s because the MBUX infotainment system already seen in the A-Class hatchback, sedan, and the B-Class minivan has learned new tech tricks we’ll see at the show.

Mercedes hasn’t said a word about the CLA’s technical specifications, but we’re expecting the oily bits to be essentially carried over from the more humble A-Class Sedan. We won’t be too surprised if the second generation will come with a bump in size considering the five-door hatchback is bigger than its predecessor. That will translate into a more spacious cabin, especially for rear passengers, and an increase in the trunk’s size as well.

We will have all the details about the 2020 Mercedes CLA tomorrow when the premium compact sedan will debut at CES.

2020 Mercedes CLA-Class Debuts With Svelte Shape, 221 HP On Tap

The interior comes standard with a pair of 7-inch screens, and buyers can opt for larger 10.25-inch displays.

The teasers are finally over, and the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class is here after an unveiling at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The sedan's new generation will arrive in late 2019, and Mercedes will announce pricing info closer to launch.

When it goes on sale in the U.S., the little four-door is only available as the CLA250 with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Buyers can choose between front- or all-wheel drive. The mill produces 221 horsepower (165 kilowatts) and 258 pound-feet (350 Newton-meters) of torque, which is quite an upgrade over the turbo 2.0-liter in the A220 sedan with 188 hp (140 kW) and 221 lb-ft (299 Nm). For now, Mercedes isn't offering many performance details for the 2020 CLA beyond its electronically limited top speed of 130 miles per hour (209 kilometers per hour).

The latest CLA-Class grows a little over the previous generation. Overall length is up 1.9 inches (48 millimeters) to 184.6 inches (4,688 mm), and the wheelbase increases by 1.1 inches (30 mm) to 107.4 inches (2,729 mm). The company also pushes out the wheel tracks by stretching them 2.5 inches (63 mm) at the front and 2.2 inches (55 mm) at the rear. The greater size doesn't translate to big boosts in cabin space because front legroom decreases by 0.04 inches (1 mm) and rear legroom grows by 1 mm. In the trunk, cargo capacity decreases by 0.35 cubic feet (10 liters) to a total of 16.24 cubic feet (460 liters).

On the inside, the CLA-Class comes with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) software, and the standard cabin features a pair of seven-inch displays one for the instruments and other for the infotainment system. Customers can upgrade to two 10.25-inch screens for a more eye-catching view. Another option adds gesture control to the tech that lets occupants just wave their hands to make selections, rather than using the usual touchpad on the center console. Further available improvements include navigation and a Burmester Surround Sound System.

The 2020 CLA comes standard with an Active Brake Assist system that can automatically slow the sedan to avoid collisions with vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians. However, the optional Driver Assistance Package loads the vehicle with helpful driving aids. It includes features like adaptive cruise control, active steering assist, lane keep assist, speed limit sign recognition, and blind spot monitoring.

If Mercedes can attract Kia buyers they’ll have won.

The more I look at the pic, the worse it gets. It's just so damn awful and it's not inline with traditional Mercedes.
