News Subaru 50th Anniversary Edition

Subaru Of America Confirms Plan To Release Limited Edition Models To Commemorate 50Th Anniversary

At an automotive media lunch in N.Y. today, Jeff Walters, Subaru of America VP of Sales, confirmed the company’s plan to release limited edition models to commemorate its 50th anniversary next year. Each vehicle in the Subaru line-up will offer a 50th anniversary edition. The editions will feature a new, common color which will be based on a high-level trim and will come with special badging.

Subaru of America was founded on February 15th,1968, and operated for a short time from Balboa Park, CA, before moving to the Delaware Valley where is has had its home for almost all of its 50 years. Leading up to its 50th anniversary, the company is enjoying close to a decade of consecutive year-over-year sales growth, besting any other auto brand, and is expected to close 2017 with sales of over 650,000.

More details on the limited-edition models will be made available at the debut at the Chicago International Auto Show in February 2018.

Number of models produced for U.S. customers

The Subaru source revealed the number of each 50th anniversary edition was leaked on an internal company communication and each model (except WRX/STI and BRZ) in the lineup will be limited to 1050 examples. 2018 Subaru WRX, WRX STI and BRZ sport coupe will get 1050 total examples for the performance line. WRX will get 600 Limited trims, WRX STI Limited will see only 200 examples produced and BRZ will get 250 Limited models in the special 50th anniversary trim.

There will be 800 2.5i Outback Limited trims, and 250 Outback 3.6R Limited trims produced. Forester will get 800 2.5i Touring trims and 250 Forester 2.0XT models. Crosstrek will get 1,050 Limited trims, Impreza gets 500 2.0i Limited sedans, and 550 2.0i Limited 5-Door hatch models. Legacy gets 800 2.5i Limited and 250 3.6R Limited trims.

The 2018 Subaru WRX, WRX STI, BRZ, Forester and Crosstrek are produced in Japan and could arrive later than their American made counterparts. Outback, Impreza and Legacy are made at the Subaru Indiana Automotive plant in Lafayette, Indiana and could be available sooner. The all-new Subaru Ascent 3-Row family hauler doesn’t arrive until summer 2018 and most likely won’t get the 50th anniversary trim.

Subaru of America says more details and pricing on the limited-edition models will be made available when the 50th Anniversary editions make their debut at the Chicago International Auto Show in February 2018.

Maybe you'll get a challenge coin too, or a toaster.

Just got word of our first run of 50th Editions due in January.
1. STi Base - Crystal Black "Special Edition" I'm guessing the RA
2. WRX Ltd - Heritage Blue "50th Anniversary Model"
3. BRZ Ltd - Crystal Black "Special Edition" I'm guessing tS
4. Legacy 2.5i Ltd - Heritage Blue "50th Anniversary Model"
5. Impreza 2.0i Ltd - Heritage Blue "50th Anniversary Model"
6. Forester 2.5i Touring - X2 - Heritage Blue "50th Anniversary Model"
7. Outback 2.5i Limited - Heritage Blue "50th Anniversary Model"
8. Crosstrek 2.0i Limited - Heritage Blue "50th Anniversary Model"

Will be interesting to see the Heritage Blue and if they keep pumping them out all year.

We have 2 "Special Editions" and 1 that says tS. Think they are different. Type RA is still few months away.

Ok. Thought it was a little odd to call them "Special Edition" and not tS or RA. If we get an RA in White I might lose it and re-up.

Boss is not too keen on BRZs. Especially 3 of them and almost didn't click on the tS to accept. I was like "BOSS!!!!!!". Ended up just getting all three.

Not sure. One of the STIs we are getting says WRB. The rest say Heritage Blue. I typically like blues. Hope this one looks good.

I see, like, two greens there.

I like that second-to-last blue though.

There was a JDM midnight blue color...almost black. That's what I'm hoping for.

Wasn't ever really a fan. It was popular here when it first hit; but, waned off pretty quick.

NO ONE ASKED YOU, MY FANBOI

I think the snazziests colors were the World Rally Blue Pearl II from the WRX Concept and the 2010 Legacy Concept's platinum silver color. Both filled my little heart with glee.
