Parking brake isnt working
Hey guys I have an 04 wrx and when I bought it the parking brake was rly weak. Now I can't even rely on it cause it doesn't work at all. Any suggestions on what could be wrong or how to fix it?
Always appreciate your guys help!

It could be a variety of reasons. Since the parking brake doesn't do any stopping I doubt the drum shoes have worn down. Might be stretched cables?

That what a couple of my friends think. What would I have to do to fix it or even check if it is a stretched cable?

My STI had weak e-brake basically since new. When I did my last brake job, I poked around on the rear e-brake assembly while the rotor was off. There's a little gear thing near the bottom that you can turn to adjust the brake tension. I don't remember which way is tighter/looser, but I tightened it up a bit at a time, until I couldn't get the rotor to go on over the shoes. Then I backed it off a bit.
My e-brake is insane now. -Mike |

That makes sense. Plus unless you are pulling it rally style its pretty hard to wear out the shoes.
