Question for people with Toyo T1-S tires
I just put on my new wheels with the Toyo T1-S tires ( See here ) and have a question.
They seem to howl pretty bad. Is this common? Are the tires just breaking in? or could there be a problem? I only have about 50 miles on them. Thanks! Chris

Mine too
I've got some T1S Proxes on my WRX (18' rims) and yeah they're pretty noisy, especially at freeway speeds. They've got about 200 miles on them so far. Maybe they'll ge a bit quieter with time.

Hi Chris
I've got 16000 miles on my T1s's. Never had a problem with noise, but mine are 205/50-16's. John |

Yeah, they're pretty loud at highway speeds. They do quiet down a bit after a few thousand miles though.

They'll probably be a bit noisy forever. They are damn sweet though. I've got some on the stock wheels. Very sweet and grippy.

So besides the noise, are T1S good? Sorry to ask this but I'm not good with tires.

I love these tires. I don't find them to be noisy at all. I have about 7000 miles on them with one auto x and a two day driving school at Grattan raceway in MI with the quattro club. I probably put 50 hard miles on them at that event and they looked great afterward; no chunking. In the rain they're spectacular! I'll buy them again based on my experience so far.

noise...
you might wanna try checking your tire pressures. too much and the center of your tread will crown. too low and it'll pucker and you'll start rolling on the sidewalls during hard cornering. i had t1s's on my old civic si and didn't have a single problem with noise. they are extremely quiet tires. their single center block tread design with no leading corners or even chamfered corners yields this. you maybe running too much pressure. unfortunately i don't know the correct pressure for 18's. the suggest pressures by fhi is on your door sill for 17's (33/32 - f/r). you could use that as a guideline and adjust 1-2 psi up and down to experiment.

The tires grip extremely well just the noise is bothering me.
I'll mess around with the tire pressure. Thanks! Chris |

I have no noise with my toyo t1-s rubber, I am running 205/50/16, front psi 37-40, and the rear at 35-37; always less in the rear --especially in Auto-x. I have about 5-6k miles on them, including 4 autocrosses, and 1 just got plugged from a nail puncture in the tread water groove. I LOVE them, the stick to the ground, emmit almost no noise ( yokohama tires *I believe the 450 series* are EXTREMELY loud), but loud isnt nessicarily(sp?) that bad at all IMO, and they are sweet to drive with in the rain.
