Default Sti feels weak.

Hello all I have a 2006 Subie STi. I just bought it not too long. Anyways I have felt like shes pretty weak getting off a light. It feels like its hesitating under 3k rpm. Like if I rev the car it just feels like its in a late reaction. It has 122k miles. No cel lights. Except from an abs light which is the rear speed sensor. Has aps 3.5 exhaust and an ebay downpipe. Forge bov. Everything Else is stock . I just put some Denso iridium ikh20tt spark plugs. Which I saw they are gapped at .40 from factory. Maybe I put wrong plugs in there? Any help or thoughts are greatly appreciated .

Could be leaking air at your BOV. These cars are notorious for developing boost and vacuum leaks.

Are you tuned? Do you have a Cobb AP? Monitoring your AF ratio, AF learning, and Dynamic Advance Multiplier (DAM) could help keep an eye on air leaks.

Thanks for the reply Nathan. The bov circulates back to the intake. I guess ill take a look at it tomorrow and switch it back to stock one and see if that helps. No Cobb ap yet. I do work in pepboys as a tech and have access to the snap on computer. Is the something to look for there? Knock or timing related ? Thanks

Yup, I have a 2007 in immaculate condition, but our cars our over 11 years old. Hoses crack and develop holes over time. Even if the BOV recirculates, it could be leaking at the flange, the BOV body, etc. If it is not tuned for the BOV, I would recommend putting the stocker back on. It will not make a difference right away. Your ECU will have to relearn everything if that was the problem for certain.

Everytime I change my oil, I pressure test the intake tract using a $100 pancake air compressor and a boost leak tester. Bought one from www.turboboostleaktesters.com and follow the directions. I spray soapy water over the intake areas and look for bubbles. All the spots that show bubbles are areas air is escaping that should be recirculating. This will make the car feel sluggish especially from a dead stop like you described. Not as noticeable at cruising or rolling throttle since the air flows faster when you are moving, which masks the issue a bit.

Dam that makes sense . Thanks a million. I will take in a bay tomorrow and put the stocker back on and check for leaks. Im praying its that. The spark plugs are ikh20tt gapped at .40 that wouldn't have anything to do with it right ?

I don't know about those plugs. My One Step Colder NGK plugs are gapped around 0.028, I believe. OEMs normal NGK plugs are about 0.032, so 0.040 seems a bit high. Plugs come with standard gaps but should be adjusted to the particular car.

Many different things can cause that symptom.

I'm not sure what that wire connection is off the top of my head.

Good to hear! Hope that was all it was.

As the ECU relearns, if it bogs down again, hit us back up on here and we'll check out other options. Enjoy!
