Ya noticed all the deleted post. If anyone can still get a hold of him and he would like to help I can pay. Underground wants more for fender rolling then a fender roller cost.

So let me guess..you think it shouldn't cost more then $150 to do it all? Have you ever rolled fenders correctly before? Some cars are not to bad and then some can be a down right pain in the ass

Lol, right on.

OP: If money is an issue you could always use a baseball bat. Then again, I wouldn't do that to a car that costs 35k. I would take it somewhere that can do it right the first time.

Never said you were taking a shot at anyone, $150 per axle starting isn't that bad for the professional work that is done there.

Wow, This post pretty much sums up the majority of the new school in Akic.

"I can buy the tool and do it myself for cheaper. "

Go for it, let me know how that works out for you.

Do some of you people realize the time, effort, skill and artistry that goes into building experience?

You get what you pay for folks. Alex is a true artist. Nothing comes out of Underground half assed, it's done right from the start. No hype, just the truth.

I don't think anyone is saying Undergrounds prices are unreasonably high. They are probably spot on with the amount of work and time it takes.

Some people, like myself, get a lot more satisfaction and pride from doing work like this themselves. I've watched several videos on rolling fenders, and it seems like something I could easily do IF I had a roller. Granted, I own a 13 year old car so if I messed up, it wouldn't be that big of a deal to me.

There are some things that would just take too much time and money to learn and DIY. Paint and bodywork is one of those for myself.

Does this mean that Underground will lose business? Probably not. There will ALWAYS be someone paying the professionals to do the work either because they can't do it themselves or because they don't trust themselves with that type of work.

Couldn't of said it better myself. I wasn't saying I wouldn't use the shop, I just like to do some things on my own.

I was just looking for a little info, new to the area and was just expressing my options. Not sure why anyone would slam someone for wanting to do their own work.

Don't know about fender rolling but back in the day there were a lot of meets for wrenching. It would be great to have a few of those this Summer.

No one is slamming the efforts of doing the work yourself, they're slamming you for being cheap because of your comment earlier on came off as such. Just because a socket costs a certain price, should I expect a shop not to charge me more than the cost of one? You pay for the labor time + experience and if you want things done correctly time adds up.

No one is discouraging DIY in this thread, they're merely defending the reason behind the cost. If you don't want to pay the cost, then feel free to DIY but the results may not come as you expect them to be.

More or less your comment earlier just came out in a way that was going to create the responses received. Obviously experience comes in due time and practice, but do you want to start practicing on your car is the true question. If you're looking to explore your options, I'm sure PMing Seascoob will still get to him, he probably just won't be active in posting in public anymore.

Both Alex and Underground do good work. Don't know why The Mikes are getting so defensive. If two places both do great work then why not go to the cheaper? Personally I would get a roller, do it, and sell it. Probably get most of your money back and if you do your homework and take your time it should come out great. If the "new school" guys are the ones who actually want to learn and do things themselves and not smooch off everyone else to build their car for them I would say we're taking a step in the right direction.

After re reading my comment, I understand what your saying. I wasn't trying to come off cheap. I don't have a problem paying a shop for their services. I just figured for the price why not try DIY.

Again because that's not how the thread started off. It wasn't a "I'd like to explore my options in pricing and availability because I'm on a limited budget" statement, it was more of a "this is stupid that someone charges more than the tool costs." They merely defended why a shop was charging a certain amount. Obviously shops have a certain per hour rate and if he was quoted for a certain amount, then that's the time they require + With the experience they have they feel the need to set their rates as such.

Nothing more, nothing less.

If you have the tools, space, time and overall resources then definitely go for it. Just as mentioned earlier it may not have the results you want in the end. A 2013 STi is far from cheap, we both know it costs a pretty penny. Personally I'd be extremely picky and make sure the work was done at the highest level possible for such a vehicle. Either way PM SeaScooby and see if he's least willing to give some pointers/assistance in his free time if you feel a shop rate may be out of your budget for now.

Cheers
