TAMSCC AutoX Practice Days Sat. and Sun.
Just got info that TAMSCC is having AutoX practice at Riverside Annex for $5 tomorrow and Sunday at 9am.
Has anyone gone to a practice day there? If so how long does it last? Darron, Martin, and I will be heading up there from Houston tomorrow.

Tomorrow morning and Sunday morning at 9am. It's at the Riverside Annex in College Station. I've never been there, so we're leaving from Houston a little early (~6:45 or so).
More (albeit little) info found here: http://tamscc.tamu.edu |

Be warned the tarmac up there tends to very roughly grap on your tireds.

The tarmac at TAMSCC events may be rough if you compare it to the parking lot you guys in Houston get to play in, but it is really generally a good BIG area for auto-x.... You guys ever play out at Mineral Wells? That is what I call rough tarmac that tears up tires.... 2 events chunked my Prelude tires so bad I had to buy new ones.... that surface SUCKS! The TAMSCC stuff is usually run very well and lots of fun.

thanks for the advice, i'll give a report tomorrow. there's going to be a couple more practice days coming up. (Sunday included but most of you will probably just go to the SPOKES event).
We're actually hoping for some serious tire thrashing as Darron's P Zero Assimetrico's are complete crap for AutoX. they chunked the inner tread blocks the first day he raced on them. We're gonna go trash them completely since he's got a set of SO3's waiting to be mounted at Discount. I can't wait to try the full STi suspension! |

Quick review:
TAMSCC are very nice people, but many people in attendance know little about AutoX and proper ettiquite. When you cone 8 times on one run, it's common courtesy to PICK UP YOUR OWN CONES!!! Lots 'o 5.0L Mustang donuts might look cool to the driver but aren't impressive to other AutoXers, not to mention it's incredibly UNSAFE. Enough of the bitching, I got 8 good runs in 6 on the full STi susp. in a wagon and 2 stock WRX's. The surface was fantastic! The concrete is very grippy yet isn't as hard on the tires as GGP's surface. I was expecting some noticable signs after 14+ runs on Darron's wagon, but the P Zero Rosso's held up. That's quite unexpected as they had serious chunks taken out of them the first time they hit GGP's surface! Final analysis: Well worth the $5 fee as long as you can put up with some lesser experienced people at the track. It's an added bonus when it's a beautiful day in CS like it was today! |
