At first I only had the headliner rattle near the sunroof, now the rear deck where the subwoofer is mounted rattles (1000 miles). I used to love the HK system but now with the rattles I cringe with the level of bass. I thought there was a 2015+ rattle fix thread but I can't find it

hahah yup
I only have the front passenger rattle. Thinking about taking the door panel off and see if I can fix it, but I've been kinda too busy for that.

dealership reflash stinks, miss the old torquey tune/aggressive throttle
elec nannies, auto climate control
*crap stereo
seat cushions too short
armrests
door sill has a piece of trim sticking up, can't rest arm on it
suspension corkscrewing in bumpy turns
sat rad goes to ch. 1 upon restarting
sheetmetal dents from falling acorns
shifter reverse lockout collar clacking

*kicker upgrade, with tweeters, doesn't help. in fact, they just magnify the flaws of the ****ty stock amp.

Didn't read the whole thread but I can't stand that sometimes when I turn the car off while tuned into an XM station, when I restart the car the radio comes on tuned in to the preview station. Minor thing but annoying as all hell. (2017 LTD with HK System with Nav)

Saw this after I posted...yours too??? Subaru can't get their **** together when it comes to infotainment. My 15 had the old POS Clarion deck and that thing pissed me off because the steering wheel controls didn't progress through the satellite presets like it did with the FM/AM stations. It just jumped a random number of stations every time. The number seemed to be randomized for each time the car was cycled on then off. One ride it would change 3, then the next ride 5, then another ride 2 etc etc.

this car is actually turning me off subaru. my passengers all hate the ride quality and the rattles. my '07 wasn't this clunky feeling when i go over railroad tracks. and yes, the stereo is absolute garbage.

As crappy as it is, it's got good resale value.
Sell it and get something that you can be satisfied with.

My 16 sti definately ride stiff but turns and handles amazingly, haven't noticed any squeeks or rattled in 19000 mi but I did opt for the awesome Harmon Cardin stereo upgrade because base one sucked. Not the most practical car out there but I have had a lot of cars out there and I love my sti! Resale is awesome on these so if it's not a fit for you, sell it and find something you can live with.

I've noticed a rattle that sounds like it's coming from the lower part of the front passenger door. Is this the front passenger rattle you're speaking of? My car is new and I sure hate the thought of the dealer service department tearing into the door. I think I'll wait a while. Maybe it'll go away on its own .

Yep that's the one.

Sorry to break it, but... It will not go away on its own.

That's exactly why I haven't mentioned it in the services.... I'd rather do it myself and not break any little clip or something. Or worse yet, have them go through it, only to not solve it. Mine depends on the song that's playing: heavy bass = rattle. Luckily, I don't like hip hop

It's most likely the plugs for the passenger side switches on the door panel.

I took my door apart and hot glued them so they don't move around - you can see how much movement they have when you have the door card off. Worked great for 6 months or so, now it's back. Not sure if I'm going to take it apart again

I had a post in that big rattles thread where I quoted the original post with pictures if you want to see it.

Yeah thanks, going to look into that. That's my only rattle so I'm pretty pleased. I might do it and upgrade the speakers in one go. I do have the Harmon Kardon so maybe not worth it that much.......

My gripes. Bought my 2017 STI two months ago. Already got 3300 miles in it. And loving it every bit.

My gripes are the arm rest. I am not even sure why they call it an arm rest because if I actually decided to rest my arm on it, I'd have to go to the chiropractor to get my back straightened out.

Second gripe is the lower portion of the seat offers no supports for your ham strings. I had a 2015 sti limited beforr this and so I had the fore and aft adjustment which allowed me to postion the seat so that I was carried by the seat. Now I got a base 2017 because I'm gunna track this car and I didn't want a sunroof. And the full leather seats are coming out anyway. BUT, for now my stock base seats are in and the very first day to work in the car my hamstrings we're screaming bloody murder because that is where all my weight is at. Now, I guess I got used to it because it doesn't bother me.

Third gripe, is the most recent one I develop. There is a gray looking bulb right between the battery and where the strut connects. Per the service guy at my Subaru dealership says he has had alot of complaints from this generation of stis about this loud sound coming from behind the firewall on the driver side.

This sound was often confused with valve tap, so a ticking, flapping or clicking noise, if you will. I can hear this ticking noise when your training to maintain a speed for sometime. For me, it was st 65-70 mph on the high way, light throttle. You will hear this ticking noise that is pretty damn loud. When you purchase your foot off the gas it will go away for a few seconds then you will hear it start clicking again.

But this noise is something related to the delivery of the fuel to the injectors. It's the pulsing of the fuel that causes the noise. From what the tech said, they cheaped out on the sound dampening to hide that noise.

Those are my gripes. Other than that i love it. It's freaking amazing. I've wanted one since they came out in 04. I bought my sti the same day my grades were posted before I graduated. The Subaru family is great.

i do love it a good deal of the time. i work in sound, so i can't help but notice noises and cannot tune them out which drives me nuts. i can't wait to see what subaru does in 2020. i'd like to stick with them, but there are too many other options these days.

^^^ Agreed. Way too many options these days. Very unimpressed with this car overall. Won't get another Subaru unless they step their game up. Will trade it in within the year. Lots of good stuff coming out in 2018

There seems to be a rattle, or loud clicking noise, coming from the driver side A pillar.
This is the same noise that the 2005 STI had, so it is not the A pillar, but the AC pipe connection to the top vent.
At least I know how to fix it.

Took the '17 back for the noise for the 2nd time. This time they diagnose it as bad wheel bearing.........and they don't have the part. "Might" have it next week. I could have it faster buying online. W T F?

Told me to just drive it. OH? yes. Will it fail? I don't know. I drive 190 miles round trip to work every day. Would have been nice to diagnose it right the first time instead of saying "doesn't sound bad......not like a wheel bearing or something."

More unhappy with the dealer than the car.
