Hey all, looking to buy the G1w-c. Since the power cord only works with a cigarette lighter, would it be possible to hardwire a second lighter socket to the driver's side fuse box, then plug it in that?

Yup, that is what I plan on doing and I have the same one.

Just take the cig adapter apart and extend the wires after the voltage adapter. That's what I did, and just hard wired it.

Yep just make sure to put an inline fuse on the positive side if you're going to hard wire it.

I got a drive Proof DP210WH camera for crimmas, and so far am pleased. front facing 720P camera, and interior facing camera. Built in mic can be turned off, offers g-sensor for getting hit in a parking lot. GPS and logging software to show where you have been along with speed. Ran 299$ plus 15$ for the hardwire kit. Here is a quick vid, it is only front cam at the moment.

MPH is showing 0 on the video, while you're driving. Is that by your choice or a quirk in the software?

I *think* that it's because I started in my garage, not allowing it to sync up correctly. I will do some more testing today to verify, as I noticed this as well on playback.

Just a further update, after driving for about 10 minutes the GPS finally logged, looks like it just needed time to find the satellite.

Another video from my G1W-C, the background music is actually captured by the G1W-C, I was playing the music in the car.

I love that song haha.

That's the only thing with most dash cam's even GoPro's; the low-light sensitivity isn't all that great unless you have HID's it seems.

I've been thinking about trying this one which can record at 4K and 1080p @ 60fps now that YouTube is accepting 60fps videos.

Yea, G1W-C is not that great when there's not enough light but it's acceptable for a $50 dash cam.

The Vicovation Marcus 3 that you posted in the link looks very good.

Anyone install a dashcam around the eyesight system? Cable wiring is what I am trying to figure out.

Is there a dashcam that isn't just one box? I was thinking maybe i can wire a very discreet camera behind my rearview mirror and then run the wire to the black box/os interface that would be in like the glove compartment or something and that be hardwired somewhere. I considered a raspberry pi set up, but then i'd have to get the motion detecting sensors (for parking cam) and wire all that up to the pi and then write some bit of custom software to do it (PITA). Is there something that does all this or is really small, like the new EZ PASSES (https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7119/7...a904593f_z.jpg) that i could mount to the back of the rear view mirror.

I am looking for parking and a decent wide view. dont need gps or anything fancy. any ideas?

Not that I know of but my Mobius is size of a Tic-Tac box. It's tiny compared to other dash cam's out there.

I figured out how to wire the dash came behind the eyesight system. Get a nasty crack and run the wires while they have the windshield completely off.

Best dyi install ever

My Lukas LK-7900 ACE dashcam video of me driving through some thick fog at night. Quality is amazing because I swear I couldn't see more than 2 feet ahead that night.

Been using G1W for 2+ years now for both me and the wife's car.
Night shot is just as comparable to a more expensive Go Pro mounted on the same position.

I am not sure what you meant by "not enough light.." Why? Do you ride at night without your lights on??

There's a reason why G1W is probably the most popular dash cam that can match up against more expensive ones. But then again, dash cam industry is not that mature yet, when compared to other gadgets..

Wow I must say that is some good quality footage through that fog. So many choices, now I'm not sure which dash cam to get

Yeah I'm really impressed with the quality the Lukas dashcam can record in. I've had it for maybe a little under 2 years and it has held up great. I'll probably get around to making another review of it but I have some videos on my youtube channel of me hardwiring the camera and some more footage clips.

The only thing is that the camera is a tad on the pricey side but I hear Lukas cameras have lasted for 10+ years without a problem.

It's the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD. I'm not sure if they still make it anymore but it's pretty good.
