Default Tri-state Gun Thread

I went to a couple of game/sportsman dinners as I usually do the week before Superbowl. Anyway, on Saturday night I was at the Sportsman's dinner held at Pawling Fire Dept and saw an '08-'09 Spec.B in the lot. That gave me the idea to start a local thread for gun enthusiasts in our community.

Also, this could be a good chat for any of you that hunt or go shooting in the tri-state area. I'd be interested in going shooting with other Subaru driving, gun fanatics.

This is my setup for trap shooting. I love this gun. It's actually my father's and I've always liked it ever since I was a kid.

We got to get a shooting day together once it get's a little warmer out. Donzo I think your close to me we have plenty of options. I go to the range in Peekskill NY and also there is another good one up in Milbrook NY that is really cheap. If we ever wanted to get the NJ people together too there is Thunder Mountain over in Tuxedo NY near the 287 split. I never have anyone to go with so I am always down to go.

You guys can recommend shops/ranges/etc, but no promoting of the businesses. It's a fine line, but don't cross it.

And no sales of guns or gun parts.

Just be careful when crossing state lines with a pistol. If you don't have a permit for the state you're traveling to/through, you're committing a felony.

Another member here is an NRA instructor and is going to give the pistol class for Utah and CT to a bunch of us if any of you are interested. Having a license for Utah allows you to carry in a ton of other states.

I've heard stories about people from other states coming here and getting arrested for the same reason.

Anyone make it to the gun show at the Poughkeepsie Civic Center this weekend? I had plans to go, but they fell through.

Nice beretta! I got a beretta ugb25 excel, a browning bt-99, a ruger red label stainless, and a few others. I don't shoot the others though, I end up shoot trap mostly especially during winter league. Nice topic indeed!

Where do you shoot trap in the winter? A buddy of mine got me shooting trap this summer and the range we go to closes for winter. We usually went shooting Wed. nights at Whortekill Rod & Gun in Hopewell Junction/Fishkill. Before that, I haven't gone trap shooting in like 14 years! Fun and cheap. It's $5 for a lane and $6 for a box of shells of you don't bring your own ammo.

Blue mountain is a good spot over in Cortland, Ny... you can spend the majority of the day there... archery, small bore ranges, large bore, skeet and trap. It's a public park and cheap, but you must have your own guns/bow... no loaners, unlike Thunder Mountain in Nj.

Yup, that's right by me. A bunch of my friends go there but I've never been. I've recently starting gaining more interest in firearms so I'm sure I'll be going there.

I can't wait for my Spike's AR to finally be done!
I shoot out at Brookhaven on Long Island. A few places out here to shoot, people constantly trying to close them down though. It gets quite annoying

Weren't you involved in a road rage incident at some point? (something about your handle rang a bell). That could affect your ability to get a CCW depending how that played out on the books.

UT and FL are good non-resident CCWs to hold together, they each serve as insurance against changes to the other's repricocity agreement. Use the NRA basic 8/10-hour pistol course to qualify for FL and you can use the same course certificate for CT.

UT/AZ/NV/FL/VA/CT/NH/ME permits here. Stay away from applying for MA/RI CCW unless you really need it as they are traps.

The county range in Peekskill is pretty good

Where are you located? There are a few "local" to me in Delran. One actually in Delran and Fort Dix has a public range.

Not necessarily through. If you can legally possess the firearm in both origin and destination states then you are protected by FOPA to transport through an intermediate state (provided it is locked in the rear compartment, unloaded, etc.). I'm not saying that you won't get arrested and have to fight to get your firearm back from evidence (NYC).

Also in most states it is not a felony to possess an unloaded firearm on your person -- even in CA it is a misdemeanor. In NJ anything to do with firearms is a felony and even to transport your firearms to the range you are operating in a very narrow exclusion to the law.
