Legacy Needs an EJ25D for my Legacy

Need help finding an EJ25D. I have a 96 GT and I just lost the bottom end of my engine. To make a long story short. After 141,000 miles I went and had the timing belt replaced. (never done before). About a week after I heard a faint tapping, took it back to dealership to have them check it out (thought it was a valve). They told me it was a piston slap (and not to worry that the car could run a LONG time with the tap..) It lasted an entire 4 days after that. IT DIED Can't get rid of it.. LOVE DRIVING A SUBARU. Found someone to do the work, but it is $2500 for engine with 80k on it. Not looking to replace again after another 60k. Can anyone help me get a better deal on a stock engine??? Thanks for your help

I don't yank my '98 2.5 until later in the spring, otherwise I'd offer the help. Sorry.

thegix2 - if you can still re-use your accessories, I may have a lead on a long block for you (less alternator, intake manifold etc). It's relatively low mileage (less then 50k miles). Comes out of either a '97-'99 DOHC Legacy (outback etc).

PM me if you want more details.

I should hope the dealership that did the work and then told you the "piston slap" was fine is paying at least 50% of the replacement cost, right? If not, you need to get your ass back over there and talk to their service manager, and if that doesn't work, go to the owner of the dealership. I realize the engine had 141,000 miles on it, but you can't ignore the fact that they did major maintenance on it, and it lasted less than two weeks after that!

Oh, and I can't help you with the engine.

You should get an EJ22T or a 2.5-T from an XT and slap it in there. The legacy is just too damn slow without a turbo. Why the hell is it so SLOWWWW!!!!

Apologies...

Take the engine from a WRB 2004 STi... That would ROCK!
