i havent damaged a thing with an eraser. so you have to clean up after it, big deal. remember its only a car! a pile of metal, rubber and plastic!

....good advice. Although for those who view thier car as just a pile of parts, I guess it doesn't matter what you use.

yeah it's just a pile of parts put together in a matter that looks and functions like a car. yes make it look good and use good products. i didnt know an eraser is such a big no no in the car detailing world. i havent noticed a single thing wrong with the paint since using it once. i wouldnt put a car so high up on a pedestal....theres more important things in life

....hmmm. I'm not sure what got you wound up but the simple point that was trying to be made here is that there is nothing overly complicated (as you suggested) about recommending the use of paint-specific products. It's not necessarily a matter of an eraser being a "big no-no". .....just that there are better tools & methods for the job.

Some folks like to take care of what they own and their choices of tools, products & methods reflect that. ....if that is in someway viewed as a sort of peculiar veneration for an inanimate object, c'est la vie I suppose.

exactly, im with you kean, maybe only 5% of the population are as detail freaks as some of us, but personally, if i took a halogen up to nix-hex's "erased" part of your paint im sure it would be damaged in some way, especially subaru paint.

but do what you want with your car, some of us that actually do detailing that takes hours to do a car, are just trying to save others from damaging there car.

if its just a pile of parts to you , maybe you should just have bought a used daewoo leganza (sorry, was the crappiest car i could think of off the top of my head).

I agree with this. Go back, complain enough and tell them they put it on so they need to get it off without damaging the paint. You spent thousands on the car so they should fix this problem for you. DO NOT take no for an answer.

thats fine you want to spend hours detailing a car, especially if it's gonna be in a show. i like mine clean and shiny too but personally i wouldn't spend hours detailing when i live in WI and it could rain or snow the next day and hours spent on it are for nothin really, well the car's waxed though so thats good. im out, im gonna go drive my leganza

An easy thing that everyone has that will take it off is A) gasoline... or B) BBQ lighter fluid, then wash and put some wax on.

As An automotive painter I can tell you use thinner. Yeah I know most of you are probaly freaking out right about now but I have done this several times and by the way an eraser is not going to harm you're car either in the field we use eraser wheels on a rotary tool all the time. Just always better to be safe than sorry always test somewhere not visible on the panel and use minimal amount no need to bathe the area in thinner either, fully cured clearcoat wont be harmed.

yes thank you on the eraser comment. i woulnd't have suggested it if it didn't work for me and the residue left behind wouldn't be cleaned off and be ready to wax.

When I debadged my friends camry I did the following.

1) After pulling off all the badges I heat up the glue with a heat gun

2) Pour goo gone over a section that you will be working on, there is a goo gone automotive formula which is available at places like autozone.

3) Begin rubbing the glue off with a towel you don't want or pick it off with your fingernail, I found it easier just to pick it off with fingernail.

4) After all the glue is removed, there should still be a slight outline of where the glue was

5) use some 3m rubbing compound and give it a good buff

After I did all that the paint was absolutely flawless, you couldn't even tell there was a badge there or anything.

I ran into the same issue with my car when i bought it.....stupid dealers.....but i removed the glue of my car with a bottle of spray wax and a terry cloth aplicator pad. It took some rubbing but it eventually was all gone. My dealer doesn't just put one sticker on, they have to put the dealership sticker, then the branch sticker with the number. So i got both of them off the same way.

i wish mercedes, bmw, lexus, and other high end dealers would load their cars up with stickers and ugly liscense frames. how come cars that are 40k and under have to be billboards for dealers? answer that and stay fashionable

When I debadged my car, I used a hair dryer to soften up the adhesive, then peeled the badge off the car. Most of the adhesive came right off, but the stuff that didn't could be "rolled off" with my thumb.

yeah def on the hair dryer idea flghtmstr1, also dental floss is great for working behind the badge to take it off. dental floss finally has a use! removing the glue has many options though....

im not a painter but i am a detailer, eraser will cause issues on clearcoats, it most likely wont be noticeable but it will cause issues. especially on subaru paint.... but hey its your car......do to it what you like, like i said if your not anal like me an dont break the entire car down and inspect it with a halogen light, you probably wont even notice or care what minor clearcoat damage you have.

my point is still the same though, be safe, us products specifically made to be used on your clearcoat. most of the time they are not that expensive.

i buy megs body solvent a gallon at a time for 20.00. it usually last me 2 or 3 years. its by far the best product ive used to remove stickers/glue.
